Job description

Relay is a digital banking platform that gives self-made business owners the tools and know-how to be great with money—bringing clarity, confidence, and control to every dollar earned, so they can turn hard work into lasting success. We do this by replacing financial guesswork with real visibility, transforming cash flow from a constant source of stress into a clear signal owners can use to run stronger, more resilient businesses.

Relay’s IT team builds and maintains the systems, tools, and workplace technology that help our people do their best work. As an IT Specialist II, you’ll provide reliable day-to-day support, help maintain our Toronto office, and contribute to projects that improve how Relay operates. You’ll bring strong technical fundamentals, a service-first mindset, and the ability to make an impact from day one.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Provide thoughtful, timely support to Relayers across hardware, software, identity, access, connectivity, and workplace technology.

  • Own a regular portion of the IT support queue, independently troubleshooting and resolving issues while escalating appropriately.

  • Support employee onboarding and offboarding, including account provisioning, access changes, laptop setup, and first-day technology readiness.

  • Procure, configure, deploy, track, and maintain laptops, peripherals, and other IT equipment throughout their lifecycle.

  • Support the day-to-day technology needs of Relay’s Toronto office, including meeting rooms, video conferencing, displays, networking, and shared workplace systems.

  • Help administer SaaS and IT platforms such as Google Workspace, Iru, Okta, Slack, Atlassian, Notion and more.

  • Maintain clear documentation, asset records, troubleshooting guides, and internal knowledge-base content.

  • Identify recurring issues, perform root cause analysis, and recommend improvements that reduce friction and improve reliability.

  • Automate routine tasks and help improve IT processes as Relay continues to scale.

  • Contribute to larger IT initiatives and independently lead smaller projects, workstreams, or project tasks.

  • Partner with Security, People, Workplace, Engineering, and other teams on cross-functional technology needs.

  • Help create an exceptional employee experience by making support approachable, dependable, and continuously 1% better.

Who You Are
  • You have 3–5 years of IT support or IT Operations experience in a business or corporate environment.

  • You can join an established environment and become productive quickly without foundational training in professional IT systems or support practices.

  • You have hands-on experience with, MDM systems, identity and access management, ticketing systems, and business collaboration tools.

  • You’re experienced supporting macOS and Apple hardware in a managed corporate environment.

  • You can independently troubleshoot complex hardware, software, identity, networking, and connectivity issues.

  • You understand SSO, MFA, access permissions, least privilege, and secure onboarding and offboarding practices.

  • You have familiarity with office networking platforms such as Ubiquiti, Meraki, Fortinet, Cisco, or Aruba.

  • You’re comfortable supporting Google Meet, Zoom, and meeting-room technology.

  • You can manage multiple requests, prioritize effectively, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical teammates.

  • You’re organized, curious, service-oriented, and motivated to improve systems rather than only react to problems.

  • You’ll be on-site at our downtown Toronto office a minimum of 3 days per week, typically Tuesday through Thursday.

  • You embody a hands-on mindset and don’t hesitate to roll up your sleeves when needed.

Bonus Points
  • A background working in startups, high-growth environments, or at another fintech.

  • Experience creating automations that reduce manual work or improve IT service delivery.

  • Familiarity with zero-trust environments and modern endpoint-security practices.

  • Exposure supporting office expansions, network deployments, or meeting-room installations.

  • Experience leading smaller IT projects and working with Agile delivery frameworks, including two-week sprints using Scrum or a similar approach.

Physical Requirements

This role may involve physical activities such as lifting and moving materials up to 25 pounds, bending, stretching, reaching, frequent walking, and setting up technology throughout the office, all within reasonable accommodation.

The Interview Process
  • Stage 1: A 30-minute Google Meet video call with a member of our team

  • Stage 2: A 60-minute Google Meet video call with the Hiring Manager

  • Stage 3: A 60-minute Live Session with the Hiring Team

  • Stage 4: A 45-minute Google Meet video call with a member of our leadership team

Our Compensation Approach

We believe Relayers should feel rewarded for the impact they have on our mission and growth. Compensation follows impact. As impact increases, compensation grows, and we do not limit compensation changes to a once-a-year review cycle.

The annual salary range for this role is $90,000 CAD to $110,000 CAD.

For candidates who demonstrate full readiness for the defined scope of the role, the typical starting salary is $100,000 CAD. Offers below this point reflect candidates we believe can grow into the full scope of the role with support and development. Offers above this point reflect impact that meaningfully exceeds the role’s defined expectations or an expanded scope from day one.

Why Relay Might Be the Perfect Fit For You
  • You push relentlessly for reinvention: You're always asking "how can this be better?" -- in your work, in your craft, in yourself. Comfort is a signal to push harder, not coast. You'd rather build something better than defend something familiar.

  • You crave autonomy: We trust our team with big challenges and the freedom to solve them. If you’re someone who takes initiative, is comfortable taking risks, and seeks input when needed, you’ll find the freedom here empowering.

  • You own your work: You take pride in your work, follow through on commitments, and feel a deep sense of responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks.

  • You build with AI, not just use it: You're actively embedding AI into how you work, pushing what's possible, and bringing your team along with you.

  • You care about impact, not noise: You care deeply about the substance of your work. You measure success by results, not recognition, and you let your work speak for itself.

  • You’re energized by complexity and ambiguity: You enjoy tackling problems that don’t come with a playbook. You’re comfortable building from scratch, iterating as you go, and collaborating to shape the best path forward.

  • You seek out feedback: You see directness as respect, not criticism. You actively seek input, sit with hard truths, and use feedback as fuel for improvement.

  • Small businesses are why we’re here: Relay exists to help them thrive -- and that mission has to resonate with you.
