Job description

A career at Horizon is for those who want to do something extraordinary, yet with meaningful purpose. We take pride in pushing the boundaries of technology and customer experience to deliver something that has never been done before. We are a fast-moving organization that promotes a hands‑on approach, supporting each other through the tough spots, generating a close-knit team with a family feel.

What we do here is hard, but then very few things worth achieving are easy. By joining Horizon, you will have the opportunity to work with our world‑class entrepreneurial team who are passionate about delivering something special.

What we need you to bring.

Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic, experienced IT Infrastructure & Security Administrator. You will actively manage the organization’s cloud infrastructure and security posture, along with escalated end-user support, application support, IT project delivery, and operational automation. This role exists to run infrastructure and security operations with measurable reliability and make improvements as the company grows. Tier 1 frontline support is handled directly by the organization’s managed service provider (MSP); this role is the primary hands‑on owner of escalated tickets, infrastructure and security operations, and acts in a triage role when an issue needs to be escalated to the IT Manager. Given the company’s aerospace/defense contract obligations, this role also supports the organization’s path to CPCSC (Canadian Program Cyber Security Certification (formally CMMC).

Your Day-to-Day
Cloud Infrastructure & Security
  • Administer servers, network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls), and backup systems.
  • Serve as primary administrator for M365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune, Entra ID) and for the Azure cloud environment, including provisioning, access management, and cost oversight.
  • Monitor and perform basic administration/troubleshooting of the AWS environment day-to-day; partner with and upscale to the managed service provider (MSP), who holds primary responsibility for AWS, on deeper configuration or architectural changes.
  • Own cybersecurity operations across the cloud and on‑prem environment: patch management, threat monitoring, incident response, and remediation of identified risks.
  • Own connectivity troubleshooting and infrastructure uptime; manage patching schedules and maintenance windows.
Escalated Support (Tier 2-4)
  • Own escalated Tier 2 tickets (software installs/config, OS issues, hardware) and Tier 3 advanced/root‑cause troubleshooting. Tier 1 frontline support is handled directly by the MSP and does not route through this role.
  • Own Tier 4 vendor/engineering escalations, including bug reports and follow‑through to resolution.
  • Monitor Tier 2-4 ticket queues and SLAs; identify recurring issues and drive root‑cause fixes rather than repeat triage.
Application & SaaS Management
  • Manage application support: software issues, upgrades, integrations, and user‑facing configuration.
  • Lead SaaS proof‑of‑concept trials and demo coordination in partnership with requesting departments.
  • Own SaaS implementation end‑to‑end: onboarding, configuration, data migration, and rollout.
Project Delivery
  • Plan and execute IT implementations, system upgrades, and technology rollouts on schedule and within scope.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional stakeholders and vendors during project execution; report status to the IT Manager.
Automation & Compliance
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities — scripting, workflow tools, and AI‑assisted operations — to reduce manual effort in ticket handling, monitoring, patching, and reporting.
  • Support the organization’s CPCSC (Canadian Program Cyber Security Certification) compliance efforts required for aerospace/defense contract work, including implementing required security controls, maintaining documentation, and preparing systems and evidence for third‑party assessment.
  • Partner with the IT Manager on aerospace/defense‑related IT certification and compliance processes, translating framework requirements (e.g., NIST SP 800-171) into implemented technical controls.
Additional Support
  • Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and support procedures.

The ideal candidates are likely to have the following background:

  • 3+ years of progressive IT experience spanning network/server administration, cloud administration, and cybersecurity fundamentals.
  • Strong hands‑on administration of M365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint/OneDrive, Teams, Intune, Entra ID/Azure AD user & license management).
  • Strong hands‑on administration of Microsoft Azure (resource management, networking, security/identity, cost management).
  • Working knowledge of AWS sufficient to monitor environment health, perform basic administration and troubleshooting, and collaborate effectively with an external MSP on escalations.
  • Comfortable owning escalated (Tier 2+) support personally, without a support team beneath you to delegate to.
  • Experience using scripting, workflow automation, or AI‑assisted tools to reduce manual IT operations workload (e.g., PowerShell, Power Automate, or similar).
  • Hands‑on experience managing SaaS implementations and vendor‑led projects from start to finish.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, network, and application layers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable working directly with end users and vendors.
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Project management experience or certification (PMP, ITIL, or equivalent).
  • Certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, CompTIA Network+/Security+, or CCNA.
  • Experience with CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, or similar aerospace/defense compliance and security frameworks.
