Job Description

As an iSeries System Administrator, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing the IBM i-Series (AS400) systems. Your duties will include system resource planning, patch management, ensuring optimal system performance, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with the broader infrastructure team on integrations and cross-platform operations. This role requires a strong technical background in IBM i-series systems, and working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, and Linux operating systems, along with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain IBM i-series (AS400) systems, ensuring reliability, security, and performance.

  • Perform resource planning and capacity management for iSeries systems.

  • Apply PTFs (Program Temporary Fixes) and CUMEs (Cumulative PTF Packages) to keep the operating system up-to-date and secure.

  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot performance issues to ensure optimal operation.

  • Implement security measures to protect system data and information on iSeries systems.

  • Assist with 3rd party license management and maintenance to keep 3rd party application current

  • Collaborate with IT teams to design and implement system enhancements and upgrades for iSeries.

  • Manage and monitor backup and recovery processes for iSeries to ensure data integrity and disaster recovery capabilities.

  • Responsible for resolving iSeries infrastructure break/fix issues and enhancements in a timely manner.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support system emergencies.

  • Maintain accurate documentation for iSeries systems and integrations.

  • Liaise with third-party partners/vendors for prompt rectification of any problems or emergencies related to iSeries.

  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems for application integrations

  • Provide working knowledge of IPv4/IPv6 networking to assist in troubleshooting connectivity issues between systems.

  • Support cross-platform application integrations involving IBM iSeries, Windows, and Linux systems.

  • Ensure seamless communication and data flow between integrated systems across platforms.

Qualifications
  • Experience with IBM i-Series (AS400) systems, including troubleshooting and patching.

  • Working knowledge of CL and RPG programming.

  • Working knowledge of DB2 for i (database design and maintenance, SQL, performance turning).

  • Working knowledge of native job schedules and 3rd party schedulers like Robot.

  • Experience with iSeries Security Concepts (object level security, authority lists, security audits, system values).

  • Experience with IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS) including deployment, managing databases, spool files, jobs etc.

  • Experience with Printer Management (output queues and writers).

  • Experience with Service Tools (DST).

  • Experience with IBM Cloud Power VS workspaces.

  • Experience with Windows and Linux servers in an enterprise environment.

  • Experience with network protocols, firewall rules, and basic connectivity troubleshooting.

  • Experience with backup and recovery using tools like BRMS.

  • Knowledge of VTL systems such as Falconstore.

  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Highly self-motivated and directed.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to analyze complex issues in iSeries systems.

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
