International Submarine Engineering (ISE) in Port Coquitlam, BC, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering team working on advanced subsea vehicles, including AUVs and ROVs. • Valid Canadian passport for international travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and integration of electrical systems and sub-systems for ROVs, AUVs, and subsea tooling.
• Lead and contribute to formal program and design reviews; ensure compliance with standards.
• Propose and implement R&D for AUV development roadmap.
• Identify and resolve complex marine electrical challenges (power, distribution, controls).
• Prepare operation and maintenance manuals for electrical systems.
• Support system integration planning and commissioning of subsea vehicles.
• Manage engineering tasks to meet scope, schedule, and budgets.
• Mitigate technical risks and communicate status to leaders.

ISE is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering team!

Reporting to the Director of ISE, the Senior Electrical Engineer will support the design, development, and integration of advanced electrical systems for subsea vehicles, including AUVs, ROVs and associated support equipment. The role involves working on cutting‑edge ocean technology, contributing to the delivery of reliable, high‑performance systems operating in demanding marine environments. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve complex technical challenges related to power distribution, controls, communications, and subsea hardware integration. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative underwater systems that support scientific, commercial, and defence applications worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and integration of electrical systems and sub‑systems for remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), and subsea tooling, including detailed schematics and specifications aligned with mission and environmental requirements.
• Lead and contribute to formal program and engineering design reviews, ensuring compliance with subsea operational constraints, industry standards, and client‑driven performance criteria.
• Propose and implement R&D efforts to support the roadmap for AUV development and future growth.
• Identify and resolve complex technical challenges associated with underwater and surface marine systems, including:
  • Power systems, energy storage, power generation and distribution.
  • Low‑voltage AC and DC distributed power systems monitoring, safety and support equipment.
  • Motors and power distribution for thrusters, manipulators, and precision actuation.
• Responsible for concise and complete operation and maintenance manuals and procedures for all electrical systems.
• Support system integration planning and commissioning activities for subsea vehicles and associated launch and recovery systems.
• Manage engineering tasks to meet project scope, schedules, and budgets within multidisciplinary subsea development programs.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks related to subsea operations, reliability, and maintainability; communicate status and escalation points to Project Managers and Executive Leadership.
• Collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineering Manager and Software and Controls Manager to deliver fully integrated subsea systems and mission‑ready solutions.
• Ensure departmental adherence to information management practices for schematics, interface control documents, drawings, bills of materials, test procedures and specifications.
• Ensure designs meet applicable marine, safety, and regulatory standards (e.g., class society guidelines, subsea equipment best practices).
• Stay current with emerging technologies in subsea robotics, battery systems, underwater sensing, cabling and marine communication to support continuous innovation in vehicle capability.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional experience as a Licenced Professional Engineer.
• 7+ years of experience with Marine systems and standards for shipboard equipment.
• Experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ABB Automation Builder and Rockwell Automation studio 5000.
• Proficient in creating, reading, and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of relevant industry safety regulations and standards.
• Understanding of engineering principles and practices.
• Hold a valid Canadian passport to support international travel.

Physical Requirements

Ability to reliably commute to the workplace or relocate prior to the start date.
