Cannabismarketspace is seeking an Irrigation Specialist in Ontario to manage the irrigation and nutrition of cannabis plants. The role involves ensuring the consistency of nutrient supply, compliance with Cannabis Act regulations, and optimizing irrigation systems for quality and yield.

The ideal candidate should have a high school diploma, at least one year of relevant experience, and knowledge of fertigation systems. Experience with Hoogendoorn systems is highly desirable.

  • Must be able to obtain RPIC security clearance.

Job description

White Ash Group has been engaged by a fully licensed Cannabis cultivation company to recruit their next Irrigation Specialist.

Reporting directly to the Master Grower, the Irrigation Specialist is responsible for the use and maintenance of the irrigation systems, and for ensuring the consistency and quality of nutrition provided to the crop throughout all stages of growth.

  • Ensure all irrigation and nutrient feeding requirements are followed accordingly
  • Assist with the development of SOP’s as they relate to nutrients, irrigation strategy, preventative maintenance, irrigation procedures and sanitation
  • Operation and maintenance of all irrigation equipment and controls, in addition to overseeing any repairs or upgrades
  • Maintain full compliance with all Cannabis Act regulations
  • Learn and master environmental and fertigation system (Hoogendoorn) to support healthy plant life
  • Optimize systems to improve yield, quality and tighten range of environmental controls in production
  • Handling, mixing, and applying fertilizer and nutrient mixes at measured concentrations to meet the needs of the crop
  • Ensure signage as it relates to health and safety hazards are posted within the room and SDS sheets are made readily available
  • Responsible for overseeing sanitation and preventative maintenance as it relates to the irrigation room
  • Use of the manual and automated system to monitor and adjust the irrigation settings
  • Perform regular calibration of meters and scales for monitoring and measurement, with completion of accompanying paperwork
  • Perform regular testing of Electro-Chemically Activated water concentrate and Reverse Osmosis water
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve problems related to irrigation and environmental control
  • Perform regular tests of the system to ensure consistent working condition across all zones in the facility
  • Collect and analyze water, feed, and runoff samples to determine if an adjustment to the nutrient schedule is needed
  • Maintain inventory of nutrients, chemicals and filter media used in irrigation
  • Complete and maintain proper documentation of all necessary activities in compliance with the Cannabis Act regulations and internal SOPs
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year experience in irrigation, agricultural/greenhouse production, or a related field considered an asset
  • Intimate knowledge of the cannabis plant and nutrient requirements
  • Proven ability to operate and maintain fertigation systems
  • Commercial irrigation experience or professional equivalency is an asset
  • Must be able to obtain a Responsible Person in Charge (RPIC) security clearance, if requested
  • AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate would be an asset
  • Proficient knowledge of the materials and equipment used in an automated irrigation system
  • Experience with Hoogendoorn systems highly desirable
  • Industrial automation experience knowledge and/or computer controls considered a strong asset
  • Basic agricultural knowledge considered an asset understanding of computers, documentation software, Word and Excel considered an asset
  • Ability to perform physical work such as standing and walking for extended periods of time, frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching
  • Must be eligible to legally work in Canada
