Job summary

A healthcare organization in Ontario seeks an Infection Prevention and Control Nurse responsible for leading infection control initiatives, providing guidance across Ontario and BC regions, and ensuring the safety of residents. Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in geriatrics in a clinical health setting.
  • Certification in Infection Prevention & Control (CIC) or Associate Infection Prevention and Control Certification (A-IPC) required.
  • Advanced computer skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the implementation of infection prevention and control program.
  • Provide infection prevention guidance for Ontario and BC Regions.
  • Support Ontario Region clinically as needed.
  • Implement strategies for preventing infectious outbreaks.
  • Perform infection prevention surveillance and data analysis.

Skills

Certification of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario
Sound knowledge of applicable provincial regulations
Three years’ experience in geriatrics
Completion of Basic Infection Prevention and Control Courses
Fluent in English
Advanced computer skills (Word, Excel)

The Infection Prevention and Control Nurse is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents through the strong leadership and motivation of Sienna team members.

As an Infection Prevention and Control Nurse your typical day will impact the following ways:

  • Participating in the planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of Sienna infection prevention and control program.
  • Responsible for providing infection prevention and control guidance for both Ontario and BC Region.
  • When required supports Ontario Region clinically in a similar capacity as Regional Wellness Partner.
  • Proactive prevention of dangerous infectious agents such as viruses and bacteria, outbreaks and epidemics.
  • Implementing prevention strategies including education/consultation for front line team members.
  • Performing infection prevention and control surveillance, collection and implementation of best practices and data analysis.
  • Identifying trends/patterns and managing investigations of infections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Must haves:

  • Certification of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario and if required certification with College of Nurses in BC.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable provincial regulations and standards for Ontario and BC.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in geriatrics in a clinical health setting.
  • Completion of Basic Infection Prevention and Control Courses or willingness to obtain in a timeframe identified.
  • Certification in Infection Prevention & Control (CIC) or Associate Infection Prevention and Control Certification (A-IPC) – or willingness to obtain within a timeframe identified.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Advanced computer skills (e.g. Word, Excel).
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check. Applicable to British Columbia applicants.

Bonus points for having:

  • Experience in Infection Control an asset.
  • Experience and/or training in Principles of adult education is an asset.
