Job summary

Blackline Safety is expanding its data engineering group to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines powering our IoT-enabled safety ecosystem. You will work with real-time and batch data from devices worldwide, ensuring secure, scalable data delivery to product and analytics teams.

The role requires 3+ years in data engineering, strong SQL and Python, plus experience with AWS data services and event-driven architectures.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computing Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in a Data Engineering role.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka, Amazon MSK).
• Familiarity with IaC and CI/CD best practices in multi-environment deployment, including Terraform and GitHub Actions.
• Experience with monitoring/alerting platforms such as CloudWatch, Datadog, or PagerDuty.
• Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT and orchestration tools including AWS Glue Studio, Matillion, and AWS Step Functions.
• Proficiency with AWS data services: Redshift, EMR, S3, Lambda, Kinesis, and MSK.
• Strong SQL, Python, Java, and/or Scala skills.
• Pragmatic builder with a focus on data-driven decisions and good documentation.
• Collaborative in agile teams and able to work with product, engineering, and analytics partners.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Amazon Q Developer, GitHub Copilot).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines (batch and real-time) using modern cloud tools.
• Partner with product and engineering teams to deliver data-driven features and services for our safety mission.
• Support existing ETL/ELT processes, data lake, data warehouse, and data lakehouse environments.
• Ensure data quality, reliability, and observability through monitoring, alerting, and documentation.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to long-term strategy of the data platform.
