Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in pension funding, investments, finance, or actuarial oversight.
  • Deep knowledge of pension funding rules, investment governance, and financial reporting standards.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own the funding strategy, investment oversight, and overall financial stewardship of the plan, ensuring long-term sustainability.
  • Collaborate with Plan Actuary to oversee valuations, funding assumptions, and long-range funding strategy.
  • Evaluate funding risk, benefit sustainability, and regulatory compliance, translating analysis into board recommendations.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for forward-looking decisions.
  • Manage relationships with external partners—actuarial consultants, auditors, and investment managers.
  • Collaborate with Directors to weave funding and investment into enterprise strategy and risk management.

Amajor North American bank that plays a leading role in the Canadian pension and retirement savings space are looking to bring on an Investment Actuaryto lead financial stewardship for one of their specialized institutional pension plans. This is a rare opportunity; new pension plans of this scale and mandate don't come around often, and this particular plan serves a distinct, professional membership base with a strong growth trajectory. If you're an experienced actuary who enjoys owning both the technical and strategic sides of a plan's financial health, this role offers real influence at the board and executive level.

What You'll Do
  • Own the funding strategy, investment oversight, and overall financial stewardship of the plan, ensuring its long-term sustainability and alignment with regulatory and strategic objectives.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Plan Actuary to oversee actuarial valuations, funding assumptions, and long-range funding strategy.
