Job summary

Tungasuvvingat Inuit in Ottawa seeks a Counsellor and Advocate, VAW, for a full-time role. You will provide culturally specific counselling and referrals to Inuit women 16+ who have experienced violence, helping them access rights, safety planning, and essential services.

Under the Manager of Family Well-being, you will coordinate program activities, conduct psychosocial assessments, facilitate group sessions with Elders, and maintain client files and reports, with some evenings/weekends as

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, humanities, or social sciences.
  • At least one year of practical and relevant experience, preferably in a coordination/facilitator role.
  • Experience with PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Zoom, etc.
  • Experience working with Inuit communities and organizations.
  • Experience coordinating meetings, events, and community engagement.
  • Knowledge of Inuit culture and IQ principles.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of the program with the Manager of Family Well-being.
  • Provide counselling to mitigate health determinants and social obstacles.
  • Advocate within criminal and family court systems as required.
  • Assist clients with external resources (legal, financial aid, housing, etc.).
  • Deliver workshops and activities through a cultural lens, with Elders.
