Job description

Join a Challenger

At EQ, we're remaking banking so every Canadian gets ahead, every day. Serving nearly 4 million Canadians from coast to coast, we offer a wide variety of financial services from banking and lending, to trust and credit union solutions.

We've been at this since 1970, challenging the conventions of traditional banking with smarter, faster, and more connected financial experiences.

What's kept us moving? The people behind it all: challengers who ask better questions, push back on old assumptions, and look for a better way forward.

If you're driven to help reshape how banking works for Canadians and the businesses that power our economy, this could be your next big opportunity.

We can’t wait to get to know you!

Work Term: January - April 2027

Reporting to the Director, Risk Reporting, the Risk Analyst supports Enterprise Risk Governance & Transformation, with most of the role focused on Risk Reporting and AI-enabled process improvement. The Risk Analyst will help prepare risk reports, work with data, support automation opportunities, and assist with governance and transformation activities across Enterprise Risk.

This role is designed for a candidate who is comfortable working with data, technology, and business stakeholders. The Risk Analyst will help make risk information easier to prepare, review, and use by supporting reporting processes, building AI-enabled tools, preparing clear analysis and presentations, documenting procedures, and coordinating inputs from different teams.

The Core Responsibilities of the Job:

AI Automation and Process Improvement (30%)

  • Look for recurring reporting, governance, and coordination tasks that could be made faster, easier, or more consistent through AI or automation.

  • Help build, test, document, and maintain AI agents, prompt libraries, and workflow automations with guidance from the Risk Reporting and Enterprise Risk Governance & Transformation teams.

  • Write clear prompts and instructions that help AI tools produce useful, accurate, and reusable outputs for business processes.

  • Review AI-generated outputs against source information and flag quality, privacy, or information-handling concerns when needed.

  • Help show the impact of automation opportunities, such as time saved, reduced manual effort, or improved consistency.

Risk Reporting Business-as-Usual Activities (30%)

  • Support monthly and quarterly enterprise risk reporting by running SQL-based data extracts, transforming and validating data, reconciling results, and preparing information for reports and presentations.

  • Work with data and content providers to collect required inputs, track deadlines, follow up on outstanding items, and maintain reporting trackers.

  • Help prepare and review management and governance reporting materials to ensure information is complete, accurate, consistent, and easy to understand.

  • Maintain process documents, data definitions, templates, and evidence to support repeatable and well-controlled reporting processes.

  • Use Excel, SQL, Power BI, PowerPoint, and other approved tools to analyze data, build reporting outputs, and improve reporting efficiency.

Project and Ad Hoc Risk Analytics (20%)

  • Support ad hoc risk analytics by analyzing portfolio, risk, or business data, identifying key drivers, and summarizing the main insights for specific stakeholder requests.

  • Support improvements to risk reporting processes by helping automate manual tasks, document procedures, and make recurring reporting activities more efficient and consistent.

  • Prepare concise analysis, charts, presentations, and summaries that communicate key observations clearly to the intended audience.

Enterprise Initiatives, Transformation, Governance and Coordination (20%)

  • Support delivery of enterprise risk initiatives by helping prepare analysis, presentations, briefing materials, and coordinated inputs from different teams.

  • Support risk transformation activities by documenting processes, engaging stakeholders, tracking progress, and helping implement agreed changes.

  • Support coordination of regulatory engagement activities, including OSFI meetings, regulatory correspondence, information requests, and cross-functional preparation.

  • Maintain and help improve governance materials, dashboards, reporting frameworks, and supporting documentation to support transparency, accountability, and audit readiness.

Let's Talk About You!

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate university program, with a focus on business such as Finance, Accounting, or Commerce, or a quantitative discipline such as Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or Computer Science.

  • Hands‑on experience using generative AI tools, such as building simple AI agents or automated workflows and writing effective prompts. School projects, personal projects, portfolios, or prior work examples are acceptable.

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint; experience with SQL and Power BI is preferred. Experience working with datasets, including cleaning, reconciling, and validating data, is an asset.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, validate, and explain information clearly and accurately.

  • Ability to turn analysis into clear written summaries, presentations, dashboards, and practical recommendations for a business audience.

  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and follow through on commitments.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across different functions.

  • Curiosity, sound judgment, and a proactive, solutions‑oriented approach to learning new processes, data, technologies, and risk management concepts.
