Stantec in Western Canada is seeking a Water Resources Engineer (Alberta and Saskatchewan) to support the irrigation design team with hydrological analysis, hydraulic structures, and pump station design. You will mentor junior engineers and help grow irrigation project opportunities across Western Canada.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years in water conveyance projects, a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and a P.Eng with APEGA (Alberta).
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience on water conveyance projects with emphasis on irrigation planning and design.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; P.Eng with APEGA Alberta preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare engineering reports, drawings, and specifications for irrigation planning and design.
- Lead project designs from conceptual to construction phase.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams; provide design direction for irrigation standards.
- Conduct field investigations and support proposal development.
- Mentor and supervise junior engineers; assist in business development and client management.

Our Western Canada Irrigation Team has an opportunity for a Water Resources Engineer (Alberta and Saskatchewan) who will support our irrigation team on agricultural irrigation design, hydrological analysis, hydraulic structure designs, watercourse flood modelling and mapping, pipeline networks, and pump station designs. In addition, there may be opportunities to assist our broader Water Resources Team depending on the candidates preferences. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include research for up-to-date techniques, design calculations, hydraulic and hydrological modeling, field work, project coordination, project management, reporting, and meeting attendance and recording. As an intermediate engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing junior staff in the design of irrigation infrastructure and assist senior engineers in growing our irrigation project base. The ideal candidate will play a key role in Business Development and Client Management with irrigation clients across Western Canada.
- Preparation of engineering reports, drawings, and specifications related to irrigation planning and design and other related water conveyance projects.
- Lead project designs from conceptual engineering, through detailed design and construction.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams, clients or other consultants and provide direction on Irrigation Design standards.
- Undertake field work or field investigations where required.
- Assist in proposal preparation where required.
- Mentoring, training and/or supervision of junior engineers.
- Attend in house and formal training sessions to ensure continuing professional development.
- Adhere to Stantec’s Environmental Health and Safety protocols and processes.
- Proven irrigation system planning and design experience.
- Strong understanding of irrigation infrastructure in Western Canada.
- Experience on other related water conveyance projects considered an asset.
- Understanding of all phases of project implementation, and strong understanding of engineering design processes.
- Experienced with hydraulic analysis/modeling for both pipeline systems and hydraulic water control structures.
- Excellent communication, written, and presentation skills.
- Collaborative in nature, with ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Self-motivated and results orientated.
- Experience with the use of Microsoft Office software suite.
- Experience with design software and tools such as AutoCAD Civil3D is an asset.
- Experience with hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software (MikeUrban, PCSWMM, StormCAD, WaterCAD, XPSWMM, etc.) is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
- The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience working on water conveyance projects, with a strong emphasis on irrigation planning and design.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent is required.
- Registered as a P.Eng with APEGA in the Province of Alberta.
Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.

Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
