Job summary

The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company is seeking an Intermediate to Senior Underwriter for Commercial Lines, Farm in Ontario. This role combines risk analysis with broker relationships and requires collaboration with sales and policyholders.

We offer a hybrid work environment with options for in-office or remote work, locations including Toronto, Kitchener and Ottawa, plus a base salary range of $70,000 to $100,000, an annual bonus plan, vacation, and comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities

• Perform risk analysis using technology as well as external data sources for the purposes of quoting, negotiating and authorizing the acceptance of risk.
• Arrange reinsurance or subscribing companies where appropriate.
• Work alongside our broker partners by building strength in relationships while helping them find the right solutions for their Farm business.
• Determine eligibility for policy renewals based on guidelines and retention goals of the company.
• Maintain accurate records of decisions made and maintain completeness of policy data.
• Communicate decisions, and respond to requests in a prompt and professional manner.
• Assist with interpretation of rating procedures, wordings, underwriting policies and regulations.
• Handle work assignments, including calls, efficiently.
• Work effectively towards the goals of the team.
• Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external parties, including networking at industry events.
• Perform other duties as assigned; some travel may be required locally to work in the field with our brokers.

Job Overview

The Underwriter, Commercial Lines, Farm is responsible for analyzing the acceptability of moderately complex business with moderate premium volume according to company guidelines by working collaboratively with our sales force and providing value added expertise and service to both potential and existing policyholders.

Qualifications

Commercial Farm underwriting experience, including risk assessment, pricing, and broker relationship management. Candidates with 1-3 years of experience may be considered for the Intermediate level, while candidates with more extensive Farm underwriting experience may be considered for the Senior level.
