Job summary

Dillon Consulting Limited is seeking a Bridge Engineer to join our Structures Transportation Discipline. You will design bridges and transportation structures, lead design teams, and manage multi-disciplinary projects across Canada, with offices in Fredericton, Saint John, Halifax, and Sydney.

Qualifications

  • A degree in civil engineering; graduate level degree is an asset.
  • Licensed to practise as a professional engineer or eligible within six months.
  • Six to ten years of relevant work experience in structural design for the intermediate role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design leadership and technical expertise on bridges, culverts and other transportation structures.
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed design calculations.
  • Perform structural analysis with 2D/3D analysis and design for foundations, walls, and infrastructure.
  • Develop structural details and construction plans using SAP2000, CSiBridge, STAAD.
  • Prepare specifications and drawing production, plus code and regulatory review.
  • Prepare technical reports and review shop drawings and field services.
  • Project manage structural engineering team activities and support project managers/technical staff.

Your Opportunity

Dillon’s Structures Transportation Discipline is seeking a Bridge Engineer to fill an existing vacancy within our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

Responsibilities
Design
  • Provide design leadership and technical expertise on a variety of structural projects, including structural design and analysis of bridges, culverts and other transportation structures
  • Preparation of preliminary and detailed design calculation
  • Perform structural analysis and prepare design calculations to include 2D and 3D analysis for bridges as well as foundations, infrastructure and retaining walls;
  • Develop structural details and construction plans using SAP2000, CSiBridge, and/or STAAD
  • Prepare specifications and details for drawing production in addition to Code and regulatory review
  • Preparation of technical reports
  • Review shop drawings and field services in design and construction
Project Management
  • Project manage structural engineering team activities and support to project managers/technical staff in the delivery of multidisciplinary projects across the company
  • Coordinate design team activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion
  • Effectively engage with sub-consultants and clients
Business Development
  • Leadership in providing quality client services, with particular emphasis with government and infrastructure contractor clients within the transportation market
  • Contribute to proposals and development and new business opportunities
  • Business travel upon request
Learning & Development
  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
  • Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed
  • A degree in civil engineering. Graduate level degree would be an asset.
  • Licensed to practice as a professional engineer or eligible to be licensed within six months
  • Six to ten years of relevant work experience in structural design for the intermediate role
Experience
  • Experienced in the design of various bridge types, culverts and other transportation structures
  • Proficient in the full range of design activities, including preparation of preliminary and detailed design drawings and reports, contract document preparation and tendering
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant structural engineering Codes and standards
  • Proficiency in the use of computer modelling techniques using SAP2000, CSiBridge, or STAAD and familiarity with current AutoCAD software
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in providing technical leadership to a team of professionals
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills along with both verbal and written communication
  • Strong technical report and specification writing skills
  • Experience in construction contract administration would be an asset
