What You’ll Do

As an Intermediate Structural Designer within a global Oil & Gas engineering environment, you will be responsible for preparing detailed structural design deliverables that support safe, reliable, and constructible facilities. Working closely with engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you will develop 2D and 3D models, drawings, and design packages that align with project requirements, industry standards, and company procedures. This position is based out of our Edmonton/Calgary, AB office location.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Drafting
  • Develop structural layouts, models, and drawings for steel and concrete structures in onshore and offshore Oil & Gas facilities.
  • Create plans, sections, details, and fabrication drawings in accordance with project standards and drafting guidelines.
  • Apply general discipline‑specific CAD and 3D modeling software to generate accurate and high‑quality design deliverables.
  • Incorporate engineer‑provided calculations, sketches, and comments into updated design packages.
Coordination & Collaboration
  • Work closely with structural engineers to ensure design compatibility and technical accuracy.
  • Coordinate with piping, mechanical, civil, and other design disciplines to support integrated project execution.
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure timely resolution of interdisciplinary clashes.
Quality, Standards & Compliance
  • Ensure drawings and models comply with applicable codes, standards, and internal quality requirements.
  • Maintain consistency in design documentation, including adherence to layering standards, naming conventions, and revision control.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to design workflows, tools, and best practices.
Project Support & Documentation
  • Assist in preparing material take‑offs, design registers, and other project documentation.
  • Respond to technical queries from construction, procurement, and fabrication teams.
  • Contribute design input to proposals and early project phases when required.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Diploma or technical certification in Structural Design, Drafting, or a related field.
  • 4–9 years of structural design experience in the Oil & Gas or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Proficiency with general structural CAD and 3D modeling software platforms.
  • Strong understanding of steel and concrete detailing practices and industry standards.
  • Ability to interpret engineering calculations, sketches, and specifications with accuracy.
  • Solid communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary project environments.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple design tasks simultaneously.
