Job summary

Hatch Ltd. in Vancouver is seeking an Intermediate Structural CAD Designer to join our Projects Delivery Group.

The role focuses on producing 3D models and 2D drawings for mining and industrial plant projects under supervision of the Lead Structural Designer. You will contribute to multi-disciplinary teams, perform clash detection, maintain BIM models, and ensure designs meet Canadian standards, safety requirements, and project schedules.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5-7 years of structural CAD or design experience.
• Experience in a large, multi-disciplinary EPCM environment preferred.
• Proficient with 2D/3D structural design and drawing software; Bentley MicroStation experience required; Revit is an advantage.
• Knowledge of Canadian structural design standards is an advantage.
• Experience in a multidisciplinary engineering environment is an advantage.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Structural Designer with scope, quantities, cost and schedule.
• Carry out preparation of contract drawings, record keeping and other statistical work.
• Produce and maintain technical and engineering drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software as required.
• Perform conceptual layout work.
• Check drawings prior to release.
• Ensure coordination with designers and engineers within the discipline and with other disciplines.
• Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models.
• Participation in formal engineering review processes.
• Verify onsite condition and dimensions relating to existing facilities.
• Incorporate safety in design.
• Manage BIM and information rich 3D models.

At Hatch, the Structural Designer is part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects.The role is responsible for the production of structural 3D models and 2D drawings in accordance with project requirements under the supervision of the Lead Structural Designer.The successful candidate will participate in a wide range of projects covering structures such as building foundations, equipment foundations, building steel framing, and designs of various other structures for mining and industrial plants.Activities include structural steel and concrete modeling and drafting for both front-end planning and the detailed engineering phase for multi-discipline projects.

As the successful candidate, you will:

• Assist the Lead Structural Designer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule
• Carry out the preparation of contract drawings, record keeping and other statistical work
• Produce and maintain technical and engineering drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software as required
• Perform conceptual layout work

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 5-7 years of structural CAD or design experience
• Experience within a large project, multi-disciplinary EPCM environment preferred.
• Proficient in the use of 2D and 3D structural design/drawing software packages, including at least 2 years working experience with Bentley MicroStation software. Experience with Revit is an advantage.
• Knowledge of industry or regulatory standards, regulations, and codes pertinent to structural design in Canada is an advantage.
• Experience in a multidisciplinary engineering environment is an advantage.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Good safety awareness.

Salary range: $78,000 to $94,000
