Job summary

WhiteWater seeks an Intermediate or Senior Engineer for the Water Rides team in Richmond, BC, relocating to Vancouver Downtown mid-2027. You will lead design and production of water rides, collaborating with designers and engineers worldwide to meet quality, cost, and delivery targets.

You will drive development, perform analyses (DFMA, FEA/CFD where applicable), participate in risk assessments, and support continuous improvement across the engineering processes while traveling to project sites

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering in a relevant discipline.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with EGBC.
  • 5 years of industry experience including: amusement park rides, large industrial equipment or conveyors, structural steel construction, and/or open channel flow.
  • Familiar with various manufacturing processes, including welding and machining.
  • Experience with design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA), including application of appropriate tolerances.
  • Willingness and ability to travel worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Project Engineering and Customer Support: develop effective relationships and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure designs achieve intended goals.
  • Coordinate technical work and review to ensure requirements are met.
  • Support and/or participate in third party design reviews.
  • Travel to various sites to commission, assess, or troubleshoot rides.
  • Product Development: develop concepts, help establish design requirements, and provide guidance or direction to the design team.
  • Analyze, review, and document designs with a focus on completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Without compromising safety, optimize designs for manufacture and assembly in an international marketplace while minimizing lifecycle cost.
  • Actively participate in or lead Design Risk Assessments, Failure Modes and Effects Analyses, and Root Cause Analyses.
  • Continuous Improvement: identify and realize opportunities for improving products and services.
  • Help create and maintain Engineering processes and documentation.
  • Provide technical support and manage non-conformances in a timely and professional manner.

Location: Richmond, BC, Canada (relocating to Vancouver Downtown - mid 2027)

Reports to: Operations Manager, Water Rides

PURPOSE:

The Water Rides Team is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Engineer to help grow our capacity and product offering in a fast-paced global market. As part of the Attractions division at WhiteWater, the Water Rides Team delivers exciting water-based amusement park rides to customers around the world. Reporting to the Water Rides Operations Manager, you will play a vital role in the success of the team, facilitating design and production of amusement park rides with a focus on meeting quality, cost, and delivery objectives.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Project Engineering and Customer Support
    • Develop effective relationships and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure designs achieve intended goals
    • Coordinate technical work and review to ensure requirements are met
    • Support and/or participate in third party design reviews
    • Travel to various sites to commission, assess, or troubleshoot rides
  • Product Development
    • Draw on experience and imagination to develop concepts, help establish design requirements, and provide guidance or direction to the design team
    • Analyze, review, and document designs with a focus on completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards
    • Without compromising safety, optimize designs for manufacture and assembly in an international marketplace while minimizing lifecycle cost
    • Actively participate in or lead Design Risk Assessments, Failure Modes and Effects Analyses, and Root Cause Analyses
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Identify and realize opportunities for improving products and services
    • Help create and maintain Engineering processes and documentation

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering in a relevant discipline
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with EGBC
  • 5 years of industry experience including: amusement park rides, large industrial equipment or conveyors, structural steel construction, and/or open channel flow
  • Familiar with various manufacturing processes, including welding and machining
  • Familiar working with various materials and hardware
  • Experience with design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA), including application of appropriate tolerances
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Able to travel worldwide without restrictions
Experience with the following would be considered an asset:
  • Reviewing designs for safety-critical applications
  • QA/QC for low volume manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience with commissioning and/or troubleshooting
  • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Materials for corrosive environments
  • Design and manufacture with composite materials
  • Designing for fatigue applications
  • Designing to international standards
  • Product development / R&D
  • Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
  • Analytical and numerical analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
