Job description

We are a Winnipeg-based startup company with two founders and eleven employees. We specialize in electronic control system (ECS) development for industrial vehicles, primarily for the agriculture and construction industries.

We’re looking for an Intermediate or Senior Embedded Software Developer to join our growing team in a full-time role, and contribute to development of vehicle electronics and control systems. This position is intended for an experienced candidate who can independently solve complex embedded software problems, contribute to system-level technical decisions, and work directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Depending on experience, the successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of major software components or projects, contribute to architecture and design decisions, and provide technical guidance or mentorship to other team members. This is an in-office role based in Winnipeg, MB, with flexibility for some remote work.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborate directly with clients to understand ECS requirements, pain points, performance goals, technical constraints, and project priorities.
  • Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software systems for heavy equipment and industrial vehicles.
  • Develop embedded applications and graphical user interfaces using technologies such as C/C++, Embedded Linux, Qt, and CODESys.
  • Work with vehicle electronics involving J1939 CAN communication, wireless communication, 12V/24V systems, sensors, actuators, and vehicle electrification.
  • Contribute to software architecture, interface definition, design reviews, code reviews, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with electrical, hardware, and mechanical engineers to integrate embedded software into complete system architectures.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation to support engineering, technicians, field service, diagnostics, and maintenance.
  • Contribute to hazard analysis, risk assessments, safety requirements, verification activities, and engineering change processes.
Our Role

We provide meaningful technical challenges, ownership over your work, and direct input into product and system decisions. Our goal is to create an environment where you feel supported, trusted, and motivated to build high-quality systems that solve real-world engineering problems.

Job Requirements
  • Current Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, with eligibility to practice engineering in Manitoba.
  • A degree/diploma in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional embedded software development experience in industrial, automotive, off-highway, robotics, controls, or a related environment.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++, including experience designing, debugging, and maintaining production embedded software.
  • Strong understanding of embedded systems, software architecture, real-time behavior, hardware/software interfaces, and software development best practices.
  • Experience with CAN-based communication; practical experience with J1939 or similar vehicle communication protocols is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex software and system-level issues using a structured approach.
  • Experience participating in design reviews, code reviews, verification/testing activities, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
Nice to Have (but not required)
  • Experience with Embedded Linux, Qt, CODESys, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar embedded/controls environments.
  • Experience with vehicle electronics, system wiring, sensors/actuators, 12V/24V electrical systems, and vehicle electrification.
  • Experience with functional safety, hazard analysis, risk assessment, safety requirements, or standards-driven development processes.
  • Experience in agriculture, heavy equipment, construction equipment, industrial vehicles, or other off-highway applications.
  • Previous technical leadership, mentoring, project leadership, or client-facing engineering experience.
Soft Skills
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership abilities.
  • Analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of ambiguous or complex technical problems.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and effective in an in-office/flexible work environment.
