Intermediate / Senior Electrical Designer - Transportation

What You’ll Do

As an Intermediate / Senior Electrical Designer in the Transportation group, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of electrical systems for major infrastructure projects, including transit, rail, highways, and other public transportation systems. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative and sustainable electrical solutions that meet client requirements and regulatory standards. We are looking for a Permanent Full-Time candidate out of our Burnaby, BC office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design & Technical Delivery: Develop and review electrical designs for transportation infrastructure projects including lighting, power distribution, grounding, and control systems.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and calculations in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Utilize industry-standard software (e.g., AGi32, AutoCAD) to produce high-quality electrical layouts and photometric analysis.
  • Coordinate designs with civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines to ensure seamless project integration.
Project Coordination
  • Support project engineers and managers in meeting schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Participate in internal and external design coordination meetings.
  • Review and comment on contractor and vendor submittals for compliance with design intent.
  • Contribute to design documentation and assist with construction support activities, including RFIs and site inspections.
Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with relevant safety regulations, standards, and codes (e.g., NEC, CSA, IESNA).
  • Adhere to internal quality assurance and control processes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of best practices for electrical design in transportation projects.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
  • 4–9 years of relevant experience for Intermediate level, 10+ years for Senior level, specifically in electrical design within the transportation or infrastructure sectors.
  • Proficiency in electrical design tools and general use of AGi32, AutoCAD, and other discipline-specific software.
  • Solid understanding of electrical systems in public infrastructure settings (e.g., transit stations, tunnels, roadways).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary project teams in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of applicable North American electrical standards and codes.
  • Eligibility for professional certification (e.g., CET, P.Eng. considered an asset).
