Job summary

SSA Recruitment Group is seeking an Intermediate Project Engineer (P.Eng.) to join a consulting engineering team in Southern Ontario. The role emphasizes ownership of projects, collaboration with experienced engineers, and delivering energy-efficient building system design across public and institutional sectors.

The position is hybrid, based in Hamilton or Vaughan ON, with opportunities to mentor junior staff and manage diverse projects from concept through construction. A strong Ontario P.Eng.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of consulting engineering and project management experience.
• P.Eng. Ontario designation required.
• Experience with mechanical and electrical building systems.
• Experience delivering retrofit/renovation projects preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Ontario building codes and standards.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple projects through full lifecycle.
• Perform engineering analysis including loads and equipment sizing.
• Energy modelling and greenhouse gas reduction assessments.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Review drawings, RFIs, change orders, and submittals.
• Site reviews and construction contract administration.
• Monitor schedules and budgets.
• Mentor junior team members and lead continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

As an Intermediate Project Engineer, you will:

• Manage multiple engineering projects through the full project lifecycle
• Perform engineering analysis including:
• Heating and cooling load calculations
• Equipment selection and sizing
• Energy modelling and greenhouse gas reduction assessments
• Lighting and photometric analysis
• Generator load evaluations
• Mechanical and electrical system design
• Prepare engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and tender documents
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders
• Conduct building assessments and recommend practical, energy-efficient solutions
• Review shop drawings, RFIs, change orders, and contractor submissions
• Perform site reviews and construction contract administration
• Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables
• Analyze operational costs and greenhouse gas emissions to support sustainable design solutions
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario
• Approximately 5+ years of consulting engineering and project management experience
• Experience with mechanical and electrical building systems
• Experience delivering retrofit and renovation projects is preferred
• Strong knowledge of Ontario building codes and engineering standards
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Visio

Preferred Experience Experience working on projects within:

• Educational
• Commercial
• Government and public sector facilities

Additional Requirements

• Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed)
• Ability to obtain security clearance for provincial and federal government projects
