Job summary

A Canadian educational institution is seeking an Intermediate Multi-Grade Learning Environment teacher for K-6 on Lasqueti Island. The successful candidate will plan and deliver responsive learning experiences and support diverse learner needs. This temporary role starts January 20, 2026, and ends no later than June 30, 2026. Qualifications include a valid BC Teaching Certificate, a Teaching Degree at the elementary level, and experience in multi-age environments.

Qualicum School District

Assignment: Intermediate Multi-Grade Learning Environment (K-6)

Please note that False Bay School is located on Lasqueti Island. Lasqueti Island does not have a daily ferry service, and successful candidates are required to live locally. The district will assist the successful candidate with acquiring accommodation on Lasqueti Island. The school operates on a local alternative school calendar, using one day a month to accommodate personal needs.

The assignment may change to meet the needs of the school's educational program, grade organization, and/or enrollment.

1.00 FTE TEMPORARY

Commencing January 20, 2026, until the full return of the incumbent or until June 30, 2026, or upon notification that the temporary position will end earlier due to budgetary issues or declining enrollment. The anticipated end date of this assignment is April 2, 2026.

The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To
  • Plan and deliver developmentally responsive learning experiences which reflect the unique needs of all learners at the intermediate level;
  • Plan and implement effective student assessment in order to improve student learning and to ensure instructional practice which is responsive to student needs;
  • Be available to support online learning opportunities (facilitated by online teachers);
  • Actively contribute to the success of the school's Enhancing Student Learning Plan and the district's Strategic Priorities;
  • Work collaboratively with parents, district staff, outside professionals and community agencies while also maintaining healthy boundaries;
  • Create an engaging, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for students in Grades K-6;
  • Support the development, implementation, communication, monitoring and evaluation of support plans (Class Support Plans, IEP, behavior plans, safety plans) for students who require additional supports;
  • Integrate the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to support teaching and learning, manage information, and carry out professional communication;
  • Willing to support a flexible, hands‑on learning environment utilizing creativity and problem‑solving skills through inquiry and exploration opportunities;
  • Work collaboratively to plan and implement school‑wide educational activities.
The Successful Candidate Will Have The Following Qualifications
  • A valid BC Teaching Certificate and familiarity with the BC curriculum at the elementary level;
  • Teaching Degree at an Elementary level;
  • Experience teaching at the elementary level;
  • Experience working in a multi‑age environment.
