At General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada, we’re not just engineering technology — we’re shaping the future of defence and security. Our teams design and deliver advanced, mission-critical solutions that enhance national security, strengthen communities, and protect the people we serve.

If you’re looking for meaningful work that contributes to a safer, more secure world, you’ll find purpose here. Every day, your skills will directly impact programs that matter.

We are looking for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineering Developer to join our Mechanical Design team in Calgary. In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of mechanical systems for rugged environments, supporting projects from concept and requirements definition through design verification, qualification, and production. You will work closely with engineering and cross-functional teams to develop practical, manufacturable designs and support the successful delivery of our programs.

In this role you will:

  • Contribute to the development of mechanical designs and drawings for mechanical systems for use in rugged environments using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
  • Support the full design life cycle from requirements definition and concept through to successful production ramp-up, including support for prototype procurement, assembly, design verification and qualification testing, and ongoing manufacturing support.
  • Review part and assembly drawings and parts lists in support of design release activities.
  • Apply stress, dynamic, and fatigue analysis methods to mechanical designs and equipment installations for military land-based vehicles. Interpret analysis results, recommend design changes, and perform analyses or collaborate with other engineers to achieve required results.
  • Through the application of Engineering expertise and analysis, support designers to ensure mechanical designs are optimized for manufacturability, weight, and cost.
  • Perform engineering tests, including vibration and shock testing, for qualification and design verification. Design mechanical tests and test fixtures, document and analyze results, and prepare formal test reports.
  • Work closely with other design professionals, systems engineers, supply chain personnel, and manufacturing engineers to ensure a smooth flow of information throughout a project.
  • Perform 3D scanning and process data in support of vehicle platform design.
  • Perform vehicle cable routing in accordance with company standards.
  • Define mechanical and environmental design requirements for input into equipment and system specifications, using information in various commercial and military standards.
  • Requirements management – review, derive, and verify mechanical and environmental requirements for the mechanical design team. Guide designers and review designs and drawings for compliance with requirements.
  • Support program management in the creation of reports for technical reviews and task progress.
  • Travel to Department of National Defence (DND) locations in Canada to review vehicles for installation design and support installation of final designs for system qualification and verification.
  • Develop project and performance metrics and support their application and use on assigned projects.
  • Support the Mechanical Engineering Team Lead and Program Manager in achieving project objectives and meeting DND customer delivery requirements in accordance with GDMS-C processes and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Science, or an equivalent discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience with Siemens NX, Simcenter 3D, and PLM systems or similar 3D CAD and finite element analysis software is required.
  • Knowledge or experience in the following areas:
    • Design for vibration and shock environments.
    • Design for harsh climatic and corrosive environments.
    • Design of sheet metal, machined, and welded parts.
    • Finite element analysis, including structural, dynamic, and fatigue analysis.
    • Military specifications and standards.
