Job summary

A leading engineering firm is seeking an experienced Intermediate Mechanical Engineer in Northwestern Ontario. The role involves designing mechanical systems for energy projects, including power generation facilities, and mentoring junior engineers. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and over five years of relevant design experience. Strong knowledge of engineering software and licensure as a professional engineer are required. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to climate adaptation and low-carbon solutions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering design experience ideally in the EPCM environment.
  • Experience in consulting environment valued.
  • Prior experience with power or gas plant design preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical piping and equipment for power generation.
  • Prepare mechanical specifications and RFQs.
  • Review vendor drawings and interface with stakeholders.
  • Participate in PFDs and P&IDs development.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers.

What you can expect to do here
  • Design mechanical piping and equipment for renewable and fossil power generation facilities.
  • Prepare mechanical equipment and packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, RFQs, and technical bid evaluations.
  • Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings and data. Interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, and detailers/designers.
  • Ensure effective communications with other engineering disciplines.
  • Prepare construction/installation scopes of work for mechanical systems.
  • Participate in the development of PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Perform piping design activities including sizing, pressure drop calculations, stress analysis, and pipe support design.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
What you’ll bring to WSP
  • University Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering design experience within the EPCM environment ideally with a focus on industrial facilities.
  • Must be a currently licensed professional engineer (P.Eng, Ing, PE) in their province of practice.
  • Experience within the consulting environment desired.
  • Previous experience with power plant, renewable natural gas plant design desired.
  • Working knowledge of Microstation or AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of Smart Plant 3D or CADworx.
  • Experience using Caesar II or AutoPipe.
  • Experience using Thermoflow.
