Overview

CANDU Energy Inc./ AtkinsRéalis Nuclear Inc. is actively seeking a qualified Intermediate Mechanical Designer to support engineering roles for nuclear projects in major areas, such as new build in Ontario, international new builds, refurbishment, and continuous plant operation support modifications for nuclear power plants.

Your role
  • Prepare electronic documents in AutoCAD; sketching, three-dimensional computer modeling, drawings and construction documents.
  • Apply relevant Codes & Standards and regulatory requirements and coordinate with design team to ensure compliance.
  • Interface with Engineering teams throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation and close‑out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements.
  • Must be "Team" oriented with a demonstrated ability to work well with others and promote a positive work environment.
  • Provide field support through site visits and inspections, ensuring adherence to design intent and quality requirements.
  • Revise existing drawings/3D models (relative to the discipline) from detailed verbal or written instructions, and/or marked‑up drawings.
  • Implement field change requests by updating models, drawings, and BOMs to reflect construction modifications.
About you
  • College diploma or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 5 years in mechanical design and drafting.
  • Experience supporting field teams through site visits and inspections, ensuring alignment with design requirements.
  • Experience drafting site layouts and construction drawings for industrial sites, buildings and structures is required. Knowledge of new nuclear early site and facility design and drafting is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Plant 3D is a must. Good to have Smart Plant 3D/Smart, MicroStation, Navisworks Manage and SolidWorks.
  • Ability to take marked‑up engineering drawings and incorporate changes into AutoCAD files.
  • ASME Code knowledge considered an asset.
  • Proficient in equipment and piping modeling, ability to interpret Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) for accurate design implementation.
  • 3D piping model development and skilled in model review and clash resolution, coordinating with structural, mechanical, and electrical teams to resolve issues in congested areas.
  • This role requires consistent on‑site presence and may involve supporting a shift work schedule based on operational needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff in a team environment as well as independently.
