As an Intermediate Groundwater Modelling Specialist, you will have the opportunity to be based in any of the Montrose Canada office locations in Alberta or Ontario as part of our Canadian Groundwater Modelling team. You will be joining an established, industry renown numerical modelling team. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of complex groundwater flow and transport projects with responsibilities as follows:

  • Lead and support development and application of modelling tools to support decision-making
  • Support the development and execution of conceptual model-driven work plans that balance the application of innovative modelling tools or approaches, with the scale and scope of the problem
  • Develop models for a wide range of hydrogeology projects including:
    • Regional and local hydrogeological assessments
    • Municipal source water projection (quantity and quality)
    • Risk assessment and groundwater remediation
    • Mining
    • Surface water and Groundwater interactions
    • Regulatory groundwater monitoring programs
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team focused on being the trusted advisor to our clients
  • Manage multiple priorities, scope changes and support multiple project managers
  • Provide junior modelling staff with personal technical guidance on a routine basis to help ensure that their work is accurate and efficiently completed
  • Analyze results and communicate project findings through technical reports and presentations to a variety of stakeholders
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders within various sectors
What We Are Looking For
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in Engineering, Earth Sciences or related discipline
  • 7 to 10 years’ experience in a similar role within a consulting environment with experience in geology, hydrogeology, chemistry and numerical methods. Candidates with a Ph.D. or a post-doc with less than the required consulting industry experience are encouraged to apply since time will be credited for completing a Ph.D. or a post-doc.
  • Eligible for professional registration with provincial self-regulating organizations (e.g., APEGA, EGBC, PEO, PGO)
  • Demonstrated experience in the application and adaptation of numerical model tools and approaches, including uncertainty analysis to support risk assessment, remedial action plans, subwatershed studies, environmental assessments, and wellhead protection studies
  • Expertise with MODFLOW, FEFLOW, GS-FLOW, MIKESHE, HydroGeoSphere or similar software
  • Knowledge in specialized technical areas such as geostatistics, reactive transport modelling, multi-phase flow modelling or coupled surface water-groundwater flow and transport modelling
  • Skilled in data analysis using Database/GIS/Visualization tools to support conceptual model development and numerical modelling results analyses
  • Experience using Python, C++, SQL for data management and analyses
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative attitude
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Previous experience writing technical memos and giving presentations
  • A valid class 5 or G driver’s license with no restrictions
