Job summary

WSP is seeking an Environmental Scientist to support remediation programs across Canada’s Northern Territories. You’ll join a close-knit RPM team and help plan field programs, participate in fieldwork, and prepare technical reports.

With a minimum of three years of contaminated site experience, you’ll work in remote locations, mentor junior staff, and contribute to health & safety plans while collaborating with Project Coordinators, Project Managers and technical leads.

Qualifications

  • Professional designation or training in progress preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Health and Safety and Emergency response plans for field programs.
  • Train junior staff in environmental practices (Phase I/II ESAs, drilling, sampling).
  • Compile data and write reports with conclusions and recommendations.
  • Support RPM team with health and safety, project management, and client service.
  • Work in the field in remote locations during two field programs, in two-week shifts.

WSP’s Remediation Program Management (RPM) team is one of the most established in the country, with over 15 years of experience delivering contaminated site program management services to technically focused clients. Our team of environmental technicians, scientists, project managers, and technical experts specializes in health and safety, Phase I and II ESAs, risk assessment, and remediation. With a consistent 9–12‑month project backlog, we offer stability, variety, and strong growth opportunities. Our projects span coast to coast to coast and range widely in size and complexity, requiring efficient field execution and close collaboration.

As our team continues to grow, we have a new opportunity for an Environmental Scientist with a minimum of three years’ experience in the contaminated sites regulatory framework to support remediation programs across Canada’s Northern Territories. This role includes planning and delivering two annual field programs, participating in fieldwork, and preparing follow‑up technical reports. You’ll work as part of a close‑knit team while benefiting from the scale of a national organization—access to deep technical expertise, dedicated mentorship, career progression, and employee resource groups.

Your Impact
  • You participate in a team environment, work closely with Project Coordinators, Project Managers, Senior Project Directors/Technical Leads and Field Technicians/Scientists/Engineers.
  • You work collaboratively with your team to prepare Health and Safety plans and Emergency response plans for the field programs.
  • You train junior staff in environmental practices including Phase I and II ESAs, drilling, surveying, groundwater sampling, oversight of remediation etc. as well as on site specific health and safety.
  • You prepare compile data for, and write, reports including preparing conclusions and recommendations.
  • You work with and provide support to other members of the RPM Team in sharing health and safety, project management, project completion and client service responsibilities.
  • You work in the field in remote location during two field programs (winter and summer). During those field programs, you work in shifts of approximately two weeks on and two weeks holiday to a maximum of three shifts.

  • University degree or diploma in engineering, or natural/earth sciences.
  • Minimum 3 years of field experience in contaminated site assessments.
  • Experience working in remote location and/or camp setting, experience working in the territories is considered a strong asset.
  • Sound understanding of the need for health and safety procedures in the workplace/Possess a safety conscious attitude.
  • Strong field experience and willingness to work as a team in remote settings.
  • Your technical ability to troubleshoot and brainstorm to ensure environmental data collected meet project objectives.
  • Professional designation or a professional in training, is preferred.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YK: $69,700 – $92,300

MB & ON: $63,600 – $87,500

NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $62,900 – $83,600
