Job summary

AtkinsRéalis Environment is seeking two Intermediate Environmental Scientists to join the Calgary, AB team, performing a mix of field and office tasks including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, groundwater monitoring, and reporting.

You will mentor junior staff, help manage project schedules and budgets, and liaise with clients and regulators while traveling across Western Canada on occasion.

Qualifications

  • Experience executing Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA).
  • Groundwater monitoring and sampling techniques; drilling techniques; soil sampling and logging.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and QA/QC protocols.
  • Willingness to travel across Western Canada (extended periods).
  • Valid Class 5 Full driver’s license with a clean record.

Responsibilities

  • Execute environmental site assessments (Phase I/II) and associated field tasks.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff during field programs; ensure health and safety compliance.
  • Support project managers with schedules, budgets and technical execution.
  • Communicate planning activities and assessment results to stakeholders (clients, regulators).
  • Assist in proposals, cost estimates and data interpretation for regulatory needs.

AtkinsRéalis Environment has one of the most experienced environmental and geosciences engineering consulting teams in Canada and is currently seeking twoIntermediate Environmental Scientists to join our Calgary, AB team.

The successful candidate(s)willbe responsible for a combination of field and office-based tasks, ranging from the execution of Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, including groundwater monitoring and sampling and remedial excavations, reclamation related tasks, to subcontractor supervision and reporting. Additional primary responsibilities can include project coordination, financial tracking, and report preparation, pending years of experience.

Your role
  • Execution of environmental site assessments, including tasks such as groundwater monitoring and sampling, hydraulic conductivity testing, soil vapour sampling, supervision of drilling activities and soil sampling, installation of groundwater monitoring wells, and supervision of remedial excavations.
  • Supervision and mentorship of junior professional staff involved in carrying out field programs, ensuring project requirements are communicated, and health and safety protocols are adhered to.
  • Supporting project managers to set and maintain project schedules and budgets, including project financial forecasting; makes decisions with respect to overall technical execution of the project; liaise with technical specialists or other senior project managers to ensure the technical integrity of the project.
  • Assisting in communicating planning activities and results of site assessment to stakeholders such as clients, property owners, responsible party, regulators, etc.
  • Participation in the preparation of proposals and cost estimates.
  • Preparation of site assessment report(s) and facilitating data interpretation to meet regulatory and other requirements, identifying potential risk and scope of further action by appropriate stakeholders, if necessary.
About you
  • Diploma or Degree in a relevant discipline such as Engineering, Geology, Agrology, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Geoscience, Environmental Science, or a related field. Eligibility for professional designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience encompassing project execution, contractor supervision, and project coordination.
  • Demonstrated technical skills in field activities related to Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), including groundwater monitoring and sampling techniques, various drilling techniques, soil sample collection and logging, soil vapour sampling, remedial excavations, spill response and quality assurance/quality control protocols.
  • Willing to undertake year-round field work and travel throughout Western Canada, at times for extended periods (weeks).
  • Ability to understand and appropriately apply safety procedures and technical field protocols.
  • Candidates must possess a Valid Class 5 Full driver's license with a clean driving record.
