Stantec is seeking an intermediate Environmental Planner/Project Manager to join the Assessment and Permitting team in Ontario. You will lead and support environmental planning, approvals, and permitting for Oil and Gas clients, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires 5–10 years of experience, a degree in environmental field, and strong communication and project management skills to deliver on time and within budget.

Qualifications

  • University degree or post-undergraduate college diploma in Environmental Planning, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of experience in environmental program and project development, implementation, and management, with a focus on infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in environmental impact assessments, environmental programs, environmental compliance, and coordinating permits/approvals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project tasks and deliverables and assist with implementing the environmental assessment and permitting process as it applies to projects.
  • Communicate with clients, regulatory agencies, the public, and internal multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Write and coordinate proposals and reports tailored to project requirements.
  • Oversee environmental components and Ontario Energy Board studies.
  • Conduct desktop studies to support regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement consultation programs with diverse stakeholders.

Your Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for intermediate (5–10 years) Environmental Planners/Project Managers to join Stantec’s Assessment and Permitting team within the Environmental Services practice. Your focus will be delivering expertise to the Oil and Gas Sector.

In this role, you will be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team delivering environmental planning, approvals, and permitting expertise for a diverse range of Oil and Gas clients. As a key contributor, you will lead or support the day‑to‑day delivery of environmental assessment and regulatory approvals, working closely with clients, agencies, and technical specialists.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Manage project tasks and deliverables and assist with implementing the environmental assessment and permitting process as it applies to projects.
  • Communicate and liaise with a variety of project stakeholders, including clients, regulatory agencies, members of the public, and internal multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Write and coordinate proposals and reports tailored to specific project requirements.
  • Manage project tasks and deliverables related to environmental components and/or Ontario Energy Board environmental studies.
  • Conduct desktop studies to support regulatory requirements for various assignments.
  • Develop and implement consultation programs with a focus on diverse stakeholders.
  • Communicate and liaise effectively with project stakeholders, including internal teams, clients, regulatory agencies, Indigenous communities, and the public.
  • Work with a group of professionals across Canada, focusing on environmental assessments, permitting and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage project tasks and deliverables and assist with implementing the environmental assessment and permitting process as it applies to Oil and Gas projects.

Education and Experience

A university degree or post‑undergraduate college diploma in Environmental Planning, Environmental Studies, or a related field is required.

5-10 years of experience in environmental program and project development, implementation, and management, with a focus on infrastructure projects.

Previous experience in undertaking environmental impact assessments, environmental programs, environmental compliance, and/or coordinating the acquisition of permits and approvals.

Preferred Qualifications and Assets:
  • Consulting experience supporting environmental studies as per the Ontario Energy Board Environmental Guidelines
  • Membership in Ontario Professional Planners Institute, OAIA, or ECO Canada EP designation
  • Project management experience, maintaining billable work, and ensuring successful project deliveries

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.

Pay Range:

Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$83,700.00 - $121,400.00 Annually

Pay Transparency:

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
