Job summary

Stantec's Prairies and Territories Environmental Services group in Alberta is seeking an Intermediate Environmental Planner to support assessment and permitting for transmission and distribution projects. The role is based in Edmonton with preference for Edmonton area and hybrid work options.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the Sciences, Environmental Studies or relevant Engineering field.
• 6+ years environmental and regulatory related experience in the energy sector (upstream and/or midstream oil and gas, mining, electrical transmission, power generation, energy transition).
• Holding or eligibility to obtain a relevant professional designation (e.g., P. Bio, R.P.F., P.Ag, EP, P.Eng) preferred but, not necessary.
• Experience within one or more regulatory agencies/legislation: AUC, AEP, AER, EPEA, Public Lands Act.
• Previous Consulting Experience Preferred.

Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Prairies and Territories Environmental Services group is currently seeking an Intermediate Environmental Planner to work with our Assessment and Permitting team in Alberta with preference for Edmonton and/or the surrounding area. The team is based in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, and while we embrace our core value that “we are better together”, we do offer flexible work solutions and hybrid work situations.

In this role, the successful candidate will provide support to all stages of a project’s lifecycle including assessment, permitting and approval requirements, construction support, and post-construction support. Working with our biological, physical sciences, human environment, and engineering teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading environmental assessments and permitting activities for a variety of projects focused on transmission and distribution.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Ability to work with initiative, professionalism and confidentiality, multi-task and adapt to change in a very dynamic environment.

• Strong understanding of provincial (AB) and federal regulations, environmental assessment processes, permitting requirements and construction planning needs.
• Key knowledge includes experience within one or more of the following regulatory agencies/legislation: - AUC
• AEP
• AER
• EPEA
• Public Lands Act
• Demonstrated effective writing and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Proven problem-solving skills and innovative thinking .
• Committed to providing quality deliverables in a timely manner.
• Previous experience working in a program with high volume of small to mid-size projects is preferred.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in the Sciences, Environmental Studies or relevant Engineering field.

Holding or eligibility to obtain a relevant professional designation (e.g., P. Bio, R.P.F., P.Ag, EP, P.Eng) preferred but, not necessary.

A minimum of 6 years of environmental and regulatory related experience in the energy sector (upstream and/or midstream oil and gas, mining, electrical transmission, power generation, energy transition).

Previous Consulting Experience Preferred.

This role is a typical office environment, working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. The role may also include field work and/or site visits that may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
