Job summary

MDA Space seeks an Intermediate DevOps Specialist to bridge development and operations for CHORUS satellite software. You’ll implement automated CI/CD pipelines, integrate with code quality and security tools, and collaborate with Cyber Security to maintain high security and integrity of deployments.

You will work with Satellite Operation Specialists and Software Developers to automate testing, deployment, and observability, continually improving DevOps practices to support mission-critical

Qualifications

  • University degree in technical discipline; CS/IT/Engineering or STEM fields considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in software development, DevOps, SRE, or systems administration.
  • Strong knowledge of automation tools and technologies including containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) and cloud services (AWS Lambda, EKS).
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash) and automation frameworks (Ansible, SaltStack).
  • CI/CD principles and Agile methodologies; GitLab, Jenkins or GitCI experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement automated pipelines from code commit to build, test, and deployment.
  • Automate deployment of software into production environments including databases and queues (Kafka) and cloud services (AWS Lambda, EKS).
  • Use IaC to deploy and manage cloud resources; configure DNS, PKI, and Active Directory.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate pipelines with workflows; ensure security and compliance of pipelines.
  • Monitor and continuously improve pipeline performance, reliability, and security; work with Cyber Security and SecOps.
  • Support IT and Cloud Architecture in automating infrastructure deployment and configuration.
  • Collaborate with Security Architecture to implement software security policies.

The Role

The Intermediate DevOps Specialist is a core member of our Satellite Operations team, responsible for bridging the gap between development and operations to ensure seamless deployment and operation of software systems that support the CHORUS satellite mission. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate with Satellite Operation Specialists and other stakeholders to implement and support continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines that automate software build, test, and delivery for our satellite operations systems. You will work closely with Cyber Security and SecOps to ensure that CI/CD pipelines integrate with code quality and code security static analysis tools, as well as open source software vulnerability scanners, to maintain the highest level of security and integrity. Additionally, you will collaborate with Software Developers to integrate test automation into the CI/CD pipeline, ensuring seamless and efficient testing and deployment of software updates. As a member of our DevOps practice, you will be expected to contribute to the continuous learning and continuous improvement process, helping to evolve and improve our DevOps processes, practices, and tools to adapt to changing technological and business needs that support the success of our satellite missions.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement automated pipelines that integrate with multiple tools and systems, from code commit to build, test, and deployment
  • Automate the deployment of software applications into existing production environments, including databases, message queues (e.g. Kafka), and cloud-specific services (e.g. AWS Lambda, EKS, Managed Services)
  • Utilize infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation) to deploy and manage AWS equivalent services for storage, networking, and servers
  • Manage and automate the configuration of DNS, Public Key Infrastructure (Certificates), and Active Directory
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure seamless integration of automated pipelines with existing development workflows
  • Ensure the security and integrity of automated pipelines and deployments, following industry best practices and compliance standards
  • Continuously monitor and improve the performance, reliability, and efficiency of automated pipelines and deployments
  • Collaborate with IT and Cloud Architecture to implement Infrastructure as Code to enable the automation of infrastructure deployment and configuration
  • Collaborate with Cyber Security and Security Architecture team to implement software security policies to prevent security breaches and other vulnerabilities
  • Support IT by contributing to the design and implementation of deployment of monitoring and observability tools to improve operational efficiency
Requirements
  • University degree in technical discipline, preferably in the areas of computer science, information technology or engineering. Degrees in other Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields will also be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in software development, DevOps, SRE, or systems administration
  • Strong knowledge of automation tools and technologies, including:
    • Containerization (e.g. Docker) and orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes)
    • Infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation)
    • Cloud-specific services (e.g. AWS Lambda, EKS, Managed Services)
    • Message queues (e.g. Kafka) and streaming technologies
    • DNS, Public Key Infrastructure (Certificates), and Active Directory
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python, Bash) and automation frameworks (e.g. Ansible, SaltStack)
  • Strong understanding of software development life cycles, including agile methodologies and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) principles
  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm (or equivalents)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication(Contact with customers outside Quebec)
  • Experience with source control tools such as GitLab
  • Experience with CI / CD tools such as Jenkins or GitCI
Desirable
  • Experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, and IAM
  • Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards (e.g. NIST 800-171, CIS guidelines)
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g. ELK, Grafana, Prometheus)
  • Certification in cloud computing (e.g. AWS Certified DevOps Engineer) or related technologies
  • Knowledge of highly secure environments following NIST 800-171 and/or CIS guidelines
  • Experience in partially air-gapped environments with limited internet access
  • Cloud platform certification
Comments/Special Considerations
  • Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the secret status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
