Job summary

Okane Consultants in Canada is seeking an Intermediate Geochemist to join our Saskatoon, Calgary or Cranbrook offices. You’ll work with interdisciplinary teams on mine closure projects, applying geochemical modelling and field programs.

You will lead technical tasks, mentor junior staff, and contribute to proposals while fostering partnerships with communities and Indigenous stakeholders. This role offers growth in a values-driven culture focused on environmental stewardship and delivering

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in geochemistry, earth sciences, environmental science, engineering geology or soil science.
• Registered professional (P.Geo., P.Eng., or equivalent) in a Canadian jurisdiction or eligible for registration.
• Experience with geochemical modelling software (PHREEQC, MIN3P, Geochemist’s Workbench, etc.).
• ~5+ years of relevant consulting, mining, or applied geochemistry experience.
• Experience with reactive transport modelling is an asset.
• Comfortable presenting at technical conferences is an asset.
• Genuine interest in environmental sustainability and a commitment to mitigating mining impacts.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will work closely with our interdisciplinary technical teams on projects that span diverse sites with unique challenges to support the development of practical solutions.

Your work will include:

• Collaborate design work and project scopes with multidisciplinary teams (ie: geoscience, geotechnical, mine planning, hydrological) to ensure optimized feasible mine closure plan and to gain consensus among stakeholders and collaborate towards shared goals.
• Preparing proficient technical documentation and reports for geochemistry related projects. Planning and execution of technical tasks of moderate scope and complexity, including establishing work plans, schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
• Applying a strong understanding of metal leaching and acid rock drainage processes to evaluate geochemical risks and develop practical mine waste management, closure, and reclamation solutions.
• Developing conceptual site models to support prediction of mine waste geochemical performance and water quality.
• Interpreting static and kinetic test results and integrate findings into predictive geochemical models.
• Supporting the development and calibration of geochemical and reactive transport models.
• Performing advanced data analysis, interpretation, and visualization to support geochemical assessments and decision-making.
• Preparing technical scopes of work, contribute to proposal development, and support cost estimate preparation.
• Providing technical guidance, mentoring, and work direction to junior staff, technologists, and contractors assigned to project tasks.
• Fostering and maintaining client relationships, identify opportunities for additional services, and actively support business development initiatives.
• Developing and implement geochemical and physical sampling and analytical programs.
• Conducting field investigations and collect mine waste samples to support geochemical characterization programs.
• Assisting in the development of laboratory testing programs and updating databases.

Qualifications

• An undergraduate bachelor’s degree or post-graduate degree in one of the following technical disciplines: geochemistry, earth sciences, environmental science, engineering geology or soil science.
• Registered professional (P.Geo., P.Eng., or equivalent) in a Canadian jurisdiction, or immediately eligible for registration.
• Knowledge and experience in using geochemical modelling software (e.g.,PHREEQC, MIN3P, Geochemist’s Workbench, etc.).
• ~5+ years of relevant consulting, mining, or applied geochemistry experience
• Experience with reactive transport modelling is an asset.
• Comfortable with presenting at applicable technical conferences is an asset.
