Job summary

Stantec’s Transportation group is seeking a Roads CAD technician/technologist to support projects from planning through construction. You’ll prepare drawings for bridges, roads, rail, and transit projects under leadership, collaborating with managers and CAD staff.

You will apply CAD standards, review shop drawings, and assist with base plans, survey data, and quantity take-offs while meeting project timelines and quality guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Technical degree/diploma in related field or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Roads CAD/technician roles.
  • Ability to work on complex projects and meet deadlines.
  • Desirable knowledge of CAD standards and coordination with teams.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare functional, preliminary, detailed, and construction drawings, including presentation figures.
  • Process survey data, develop base plans, and perform quantity take-offs.
  • Coordinate and review project drawings with managers, CAD staff, and stakeholders.
  • Support general office drawing production and ensure CAD guideline compliance.
  • Follow project quality management plans to deliver accurate results.

Your Opportunity

Our Transportation group provides comprehensive planning, design, and engineering services for all phases of aviation, bridge, rail, roadway, and transit projects. We’re looking for a Roads CAD technician/technologist to work as a team member on small and large projects supported and guided by our leadership team. Work includes a variety of tasks which may include assisting with the plans for structures and facilities such as bridges, railroads, roads, airports, and other projects. The role includes many business development and account management career opportunities, paired with the training to excel. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who wants to be involved in exciting local, regional, national, and international projects while developing a skillset that they will carry throughout their career.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare functional, preliminary, detailed, and construction drawings, including presentation figures.
  • Process survey data, develop base plans, and perform quantity take-offs.
  • Coordinate and review project and shop drawings with managers, CAD staff, and stakeholders.
  • Support general office drawing production and ensure compliance with CAD guidelines across jurisdictions.
  • Follow project quality management plans to deliver accurate, timely, and efficient results.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Ability to work with others on complex projects
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and maintain CAD standards
  • Take initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team
  • Participates in interdisciplinary coordination
  • Working knowledge of software programs including Autodesk’s AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Bentley products, MicroStation, Inroads, and OpenRoads would be a desirable asset.
  • Proficient with Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat Pro/Bluebeam Revu.
  • Working knowledge of basic engineering calculations
  • Basic understanding of roadway design principles and concepts would be a desirable asset
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work under and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments
Education and Experience
  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience.

Typical office environment: working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
