Job summary

WSP in British Columbia is seeking an archaeologist to join a growing team supporting projects across Northeastern BC. Based in Tumbler Ridge, you will contribute to heritage resource management, Indigenous engagement, and responsible development while gaining field and reporting experience across transportation, infrastructure, energy, and land development.

Working with seasoned archaeologists, you will participate in field programs, assessments, reporting, and project support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related discipline.
  • Eligibility to work toward BC archaeological permitting requirements.
  • Experience supporting archaeological field studies via academic projects or work.
  • Knowledge of survey methods, excavation techniques, and artifact recording.
  • Ability to work safely in remote outdoor environments and varying weather.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; GIS familiarity is a plus.
  • Strong writing, organization, and data management; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Support archaeological impact assessments, monitoring, and field investigations in BC.
  • Assist with surveys, site recording, mapping, excavation, and artifact documentation.
  • Help prepare technical reports, permit applications, and heritage documentation.
  • Collaborate with senior archaeologists and project teams to deliver quality work.
  • Ensure compliance with heritage legislation, permit requirements, and company standards.
  • Maintain field notes, photos, GPS data, and inventories.
  • Promote health, safety, and environmental stewardship during field activities.
  • Build experience contributing to protection and understanding of cultural heritage.

Working alongside experienced archaeologists, you'll participate in field programs, archaeological assessments, reporting, and project support across a variety of sectors including transportation, infrastructure, energy, and land development.

Your Impact
  • Support archaeological impact assessments, monitoring programs, and field investigations throughout British Columbia.
  • Assist with archaeological surveys, site recording, mapping, excavation, and artifact documentation.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, permit applications, and heritage management documentation.
  • Collaborate with senior archaeologists, environmental professionals, and project teams to deliver high-quality work.
  • Help ensure compliance with provincial heritage legislation, permit requirements, and company standards.

The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility to work toward British Columbia archaeological permitting requirements.
  • Experience supporting archaeological field studies through academic projects, co‑op placements, or professional work.
  • Knowledge of archaeological survey methods, excavation techniques, and artifact recording practices.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in remote outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with GIS software is considered an asset.
  • Strong technical writing, organization, and data management skills; deta il‑oriented and driven by high‑quality results .
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and willingness to travel throughout British Columbia as required.
  • Commitment and enthusiasm for working with Indigenous communities.
  • Skilled with standard field technology, including GPS and tablets; ESRI Field Maps experience is an asset.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $69,700 - $92,300

MB & ON: $63,600 - $87,500

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $62,900 - $83,600
