Responsibilities

- Work with minimal supervision and take ownership of technical decisions.
- Coordinate with sub-consultants to ensure design integrity.
- Prepare site reports, cost estimates, and respond to RFI/clients.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate ITS with existing infrastructure.
- Monitor ITS performance and recommend improvements.
- Ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
- Provide guidance to junior engineers and project teams.
- Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders.

Stantec Consulting Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Design Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of working experience in ITS and must be registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). This role involves planning, evaluating, designing, implementing, and managing intelligent transportation systems projects to improve traffic flow, safety, and efficiency.
- Design and develop intelligent transportation systems, including but not limited to variable message sign (VMS), closed circuit television (CCTV) camera, vehicle detection station (VDS), queue warning station (QWS), travel time (TT), communications and power distribution.
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for ITS projects.
- Ability to work with a minimum instructions and supervision, shall be able to complete tasks independently, shall make decisions and take responsibility on technical matters with input from senior managers
- Coordination with various disciplines and sub-consultants to ensure the technical integrity of engineering design solutions delivered by other discipline/teams on projects
- Conduct site inspections, reviews, evaluations, and prepare site review reports, deficiency reports, perform construction cost estimation, provide construction administration support, review shop drawings, respond to contractor queries and RFIs respond to client requests
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate ITS solutions with existing infrastructure.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of ITS systems and recommend improvements.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and project teams.
- Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation for stakeholders.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in ITS technology and best practices.
- Strong knowledge of ITS technologies, including traffic signal systems, sensors, and communication networks.
- Proficiency in relevant software tools including:- MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- MS Project
- AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam Revu
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering with electrical power distribution systems and transportation experiences are preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems.
- Contributed to preparing detailed design contract packages.
- Must be registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Experience with project management and leadership roles.
- Familiarity with workplace Health and Safety requirements.
- Familiarity with industry best practices.
- Office location in Markham, Ontario.

- Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$94,600.00 - $137,100.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
