Job summary

Saturn Oil + Gas Inc. is seeking an Instrumentation Technician based in Estevan or Weyburn, Saskatchewan. The role installs, maintains, and troubleshoots instrumentation and control systems used in oil & gas facilities, including SCADA and PLCs.

The technician will read P&IDs and electrical schematics, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and coordinate with operations teams in the field. The position requires on-site work in outdoor environments, travel between sites, on-call availability,

Qualifications

• Journeyman instrumentation technician certification or equivalent training.
• Experience in oil and gas facilities preferred.
• Strong understanding of process control equipment and instrumentation.
• Familiarity with SCADA and PLC systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, and maintain process instrumentation including transmitters and valves.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation failures and control loops in field facilities.
• Support SCADA systems, telemetry, PLCs, and RTUs; perform diagnostics.
• Assist with commissioning, start-up, and preventive maintenance.
• Read P&IDs and electrical schematics; ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to minimize downtime.

Saturn has an opportunity for a full time Instrumentation Technician based in the Estevan or Weyburn, Saskatchewan area. Reporting to the Superintendent, the Instrumentation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation and control systems used in oil and gas production facilities. This includes systems associated with pressure, temperature, flow, level, and control automation to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

Some specific duties, and responsibilities of the Instrumentation Tech include, but are not limited to:

• Install, calibrate, and maintain process instrumentation including:
  • Pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters
  • Control valves, regulators, and actuators
  • Gas detection and safety systems
• Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics on:
  • Instrumentation failures
  • Control loops and automation systems
  • Communication systems (SCADA, telemetry, PLCs)
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on field equipment to ensure reliability and compliance
• Support and maintain:
  • SCADA systems and remote monitoring equipment
  • PLCs and RTUs (setup, programming assistance, testing)
• Assist with commissioning and start-up of new facilities, equipment, and upgrades
• Read and interpret:
  • P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams)
  • Electrical schematics and loop drawings
• Ensure all instrumentation work complies with:
  • Company safety standards
  • Regulatory requirements
  • Industry best practices
• Coordinate with operations, electricians, and production teams to minimize downtime
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, calibrations, and repairs

Candidates for this position will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

• Journeyman Instrumentation Technician (or equivalent certification/training)
• Experience in oil and gas production or industrial facilities preferred
• Strong understanding of:
  • Process control systems
  • Measurement devices and calibration procedures
  • Pneumatic and electronic control systems
• Familiarity with SCADA, PLC systems, and field communications is an asset
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
• Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision
• Solid mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
• Good communication skills for coordination with operations teams
• Strong safety mindset and adherence to procedures
• Field-based position in oil and gas facilities
• Exposure to outdoor environments and varying weather conditions
