Reporting to the Plant Manager, the I&E Technician is responsible for supporting our Linde Air Separation Facility in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

The primary function of this position is to support and maintain instrumentation and electrical equipment in a safe and efficient manner as described in various procedures, policies, processes, and regulatory requirements. Utilizing instrumentation and electrical knowledge, the I&E Technician works in a team environment where individuals are empowered to set priorities and complete different activities with minimal supervision.

This is a full-time position in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta with the opportunity to support other Linde locations.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Understand, assess, troubleshoot, refurbish, and maintain different arrangements of pneumatic and electronic instrumentation, electrical, and analytical applications as necessary.
  • Calibrate, and functionally check instrumentation, analyzers, control systems and control elements.
  • Assess and resolve priority-based instrumentation and electrical issues as they arise.
  • Understand, diagnose, and correct control loop input‑output (i.e., 4‑20ma, 3‑15 psi, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct all electrical systems issues up to 600V.
  • Apply knowledge of high voltage switchgear control systems and functionally rack in‑out breakers (4160V and 13.8kV).
  • Conduct process analytical equipment calibration and maintenance including, but not limited to: thermal conductivity, flame ionization, paramagnetic, electrolytic, fuel cell, and gas chromatography process analyzers.
  • Schedule and perform activities related to the operation and maintenance of electrical and electronic control systems, pneumatic instrumentation, control valves, motor control systems, low voltage electrical distribution, computer interfaces, and analytical equipment.
  • Provide troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, or replacement of automatic control valves.
  • Follow safe work permit processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Always maintain a high degree of personal safety, situational and environmental awareness.
  • Optimize work activities related to planned and unplanned equipment outages.
  • Communicate directly with OEM vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Provide technical expertise in consultation with engineering and reliability resources.
  • Collaborate and instruct contract personnel on scope requirements, site safety rules, general expectations, and policy requirements to ensure corporate compliance and a safe workplace.
  • Create and update accurate work orders using a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Ensure spare parts are available or replaced as required.
  • Climb ladders and stairways and operate aerial work platforms to access elevated instrumentation and control valves for maintenance purposes.
  • Respond to after‑hours plant support requests (company provided cell phone).
  • Operate a company vehicle with a valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.
  • Assist in the training and development of new employees.
Qualifications
  • Red Seal Industrial Instrumentation Control Technician Certificate.
  • Red Seal Industrial Electrician Certificate.
  • Proven experience with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and refurbishment of instrumentation and electrical devices.
  • Previous experience in a continuous industrial operation environment.
  • Proficiency with a variety of I/E hand tools meters, instrument calibration equipment electrical testing equipment, etc.
  • Motivated, self‑starter capable of effectively managing multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Relevant computer and technical skills, including knowledge of applicable HMI systems, including Allen Bradley PLC and ControlLogix experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret various drawings such as P&IDs, SWDs, and single line diagrams.
  • Ability to be trained in the operation of mobile equipment (forklift, aerial work platforms, etc.) and other programs like first aid, fall arrest, rigging and hoisting.
  • Must have the ability to understand, analyze and resolve technical problems.
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as required.
  • Must have strong, written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job (lift 25 kg, climb stairs and ladders).
  • Must be able to work in noisy industrial environments, confined spaces, during cold weather, and from heights during various times of the day or night.
  • Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment including respirators.
