Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada seeks an experienced engineer to provide engineering support and technical accountability for CANDU instrumentation and control systems in a licensed nuclear environment.

The role requires applying CNSC standards and ASME BPVC, performing field assessments, documentation, and interface coordination with operations, maintenance, and suppliers, while upholding nuclear safety and quality.

Qualifications

• CANDU instrumentation and control knowledge required.
• P.Eng license in good standing where independent engineering responsibility is exercised.

Responsibilities

• Prepare calculations, assessments, specifications and design-change documentation with appropriate senior oversight.
• Perform field walkdowns, data review, equipment evaluations and technical-query resolution while maintaining configuration control.
• Apply applicable nuclear codes, standards, procedures and quality requirements to assigned work.
• Coordinate interfaces with other disciplines and suppliers and document assumptions, limitations and acceptance criteria.
• Continue progression toward independent professional practice through mentoring and demonstrated competence.
• Apply nuclear quality assurance, design verification, configuration management, operating experience, ageing management, equipment qualification, human factors and commissioning principles as applicable.
• Work effectively with operations, maintenance, construction, commissioning, suppliers, quality and authorized-inspection interfaces in a high-reliability environment.

Overview

This role provides engineering support and technical accountability for CANDU instrumentation and control systems, including sensing, control logic, setpoints, trip functions, digital systems, qualification, independence, V&V; and commissioning. The incumbent works within a licensed Canadian nuclear environment where nuclear safety, quality, configuration management, human performance and conservative engineering decision-making are fundamental.

Your role

About you

• Bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized program or equivalent acceptable to PEO.
• P.Eng. licence in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario is required where the position exercises independent professional-engineering responsibility; maintain applicable PEO continuing-professional-development obligations.
• Minimum 5 - 7 years of progressively responsible engineering experience, with Canadian nuclear/CANDU experience strongly preferred and depth appropriate to the scope
• Demonstrated working knowledge appropriate to level in CANDU instrumentation and control systems, including sensing, control logic, setpoints, trip functions, digital systems, qualification, independence, V&V; and commissioning.
• Working knowledge, as applicable, of CNSC expectations; CNSC expectations; CSA nuclear standards such as N285, N286, N287, N289, N290 and N299; and ASME BPVC requirements.
• Understand the station design and licensing basis and apply the governing code edition/addenda, station procedures and approved engineering processes rather than assuming the newest published standard automatically governs.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise engineering judgment, communicate technical risk, resolve cross-functional issues and uphold nuclear safety under schedule and cost pressure.
