Job Summary

Shell is seeking an Instrumentation/Analyzer Technician (internally referred to as Craft Team Member – Ref/Chem/Dist Analyzer), who will report to the Instrumentation/Analyzer Maintenance Leader (MTL) within the Refinery or Chemicals division of the Scotford Maintenance Department (MCTA). The Instrumentation/Analyzer Technician is responsible for performing maintenance and troubleshooting activities within their skill set to support safe and reliable operations. Guided by the MTL, this role collaborates with other team members to execute a coordinated maintenance schedule. They also work closely with other craft disciplines to carry out repairs and perform preventative maintenance, ensuring high reliability and efficient equipment care. The Refinery and Chemicals plants are represented by Unifor Local Union 530A, so successful candidates will be members of the Union upon hire.

Accountabilities
  • Verify and execute work as defined on approved work orders.
  • Actively ensure the safety of self and co-workers, provide and accept interventions to achieve Goal Zero, and adhere to Shell Scotford policies and Shell's Life Saving rules.
  • Perform troubleshooting, testing, calibration, and repair of electronic and pneumatic process field devices and equipment such as various types of analyzers, control valves, and primary field devices in control loops.
  • Collaborate with technical support, operations, and engineering teams in reliability programs, root cause analysis, risk assessments, and failure mode and effects analysis as needed.
  • Provide input into shutdown work scope and overhaul issues.
  • Aid in integrity audits of equipment installations for new projects.
  • Assist in the development/updating of preventative maintenance systems, spare part programs, maintenance practices and infrastructure issues.
  • Act as lead and oversee the work of contractors and other Shell Craft Team Members as needed, with potential responsibilities including performing lead roles.
  • Provide support to the business/assets through various coverage assignments, projects, and turnarounds.
What You Bring
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada on a full‑time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Journeyman Instrumentation/Analyzer Technician certification (Red Seal Journeyman certification preferred).
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in an industrial setting.
  • Deep understanding of process instrumentation.
  • Analyzer experience preferred.
  • Experience in custody transfer and meter proving an asset.
  • Proficiency in Office 365 tools such as OneNote and MS Teams.
  • Familiarity with Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate), P6 Team Member, and iPad usage considered an asset.
  • Ability to read piping and instrument diagrams and Loop drawings.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry 20 kg from ground to waist level.
  • Ability to work safely wearing a respirator or Self‑contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, work overtime or outside regular business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and be available for emergency callouts.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying and potentially adverse weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work outside of the primary hired location to support various assets on site.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining systems such as CEMS, GCs, mass spectrometers, pH/conductivity sensors, HACH silica/chlorine analyzers, TOC, and O₂/combustibles.
  • Experience with Fieldvue, Smart Devices and Bentley Vibration Monitoring.
