Job summary

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is seeking an enthusiastic Instructor/Guard to ensure patron safety and provide professional aquatic instruction at the Harbour Pool. Reporting to the Aquatics Program Coordinator, you will deliver diverse aquatic activities and uphold high safety standards.

Responsibilities include maintaining Lifesaving Society qualifications, instructing patrons, enforcing rules, performing maintenance, and attending training sessions.

Qualifications

  • Must maintain Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor prerequisites.
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check required on hire.
  • Experience as Instructor/Guard preferred (2+ years).

Responsibilities

  • Instruct aquatic activities and provide lifeguard supervision.
  • Enforce safety rules and respond to emergencies.
  • Perform maintenance tasks to keep pool area clean and safe.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to patrons and colleagues.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions throughout the year.

Job description

Reporting to the Aquatics Program Coordinator, the Instructor/Guard is a dynamic individual who possesses enthusiasm and experience to ensure the ongoing safety of our patrons, and to provide professional instruction in a variety of aquatic activities at the Harbour Pool.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain minimum qualifications (Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (and their prerequisites), Standard First Aid / AEC, and National Lifeguard) – a copy of all current awards must accompany application.
  • Pool Operators, LSI, Lifesaving Society Trainer, First Aid / AEC Instructor would be considered assets.
  • Lifeguard, instruct and perform maintenance tasks as required.
  • Prevent injuries by providing public education, enforcing safety rules and regulations, and responding appropriately in the event of an emergency.
  • Ensure that aquatics center is clean and safe by completing required maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain a positive work attitude, creating a professional and positive image when dealing with the public.
  • Ability to organize, set priorities and complete multiple tasks, while being adaptable to last minute changes.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to team and patrons.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions throughout the year.
  • Assist with various other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

The successful candidate must be available to work varying morning, mid-day, evening and weekend shifts, between the hours of 5:30 a.m. – 10:45 p.m. Preference will be given to candidates with two or more years of Instructor/Guard experience.
This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check will be required upon hire.
