Qualifications

  • Extensive experience working with at-risk and vulnerable children and youth.
  • Previous instructional experience in adult education or post-secondary learning environments.
  • Ability to teach across program areas, including practicum supervision and both in-person and online course delivery.
  • Experience with practicum/field education.
  • A thorough knowledge of the role of Child and Youth Care practitioners supporting Indigenous, newcomer, and refugee children.

Job description

Keyano College’s School of Health and Human Services is currently seeking a Child and Youth Care Instructor to join our dynamic team in the Childhood Studies program area in a Term role ending on or before June 19, 2026. The program will equip graduates with the knowledge, skills and practical experience to engage with children, youth and families utilizing a strength based and relational approach to support development and positive change. The successful candidate will teach primarily in the Child and Youth Care program but may also teach across the school of Health and Human Services.

Note: this is not a remote or hybrid work opportunity, you will be required to work on campus and relocate to Fort McMurray, AB.

Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Child and Youth Care or similar field of study (counselling, psychology, family social science, justice, or social work) is required
  • Extensive experience working with at‑risk and vulnerable children and youth
  • Previous instructional experience in adult education or post‑secondary learning environments
  • Ability to teach across program areas, including practicum supervision and both in‑person and online course delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to use conflict resolution techniques to facilitate positive outcomes
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in planning, and organizational skills
  • Strong communication, presentation, and classroom management skills
  • Experience with practicum/field education
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in small to large group settings
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding about the specific role of Child and Youth Care practitioners in the support of Indigenous, newcomer and refugee children, youth, and families
  • Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes inclusion, diversity, learning and continuous improvement

Nice to Have

  • Government of Alberta Level 3 Early Childhood Educator Certification
