Position Summary

BCIT’s School of Health Sciences is seeking a temporary, part-time (0.4 FTE) Instructor in the Biotechnology program to teach 1 course in the Biotechnology Program (BIOT 6201, Microbiology 3). This position requires that the candidate have a passion for post secondary education as well as recent knowledge and technical expertise in immunology and/or virology. They must be able to work with students hands-on in the laboratory to perform experiments involving CRISPR gene editing in mammalian cells, qRT-PCR, ELISA and flow cytometry of primary immune cells.

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver innovative lectures, assignments and assessments.
  • Develop and deliver current and innovative laboratory exercises.
  • Work with Biotechnology faculty to coordinate lab components between 2 courses to enhance student experiential learning.
  • Liaise with students when necessary.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • MSc degree in a related field, with a PhD preferable.
  • Theoretical and technical knowledge of immunology and/or virology, with additional knowledge of cell biology and molecular biology desirable.
  • Teaching experience in immunology and/or virology is preferred.
  • Technical expertise in mammalian and primary immune cell culture, mammalian cell transfection and flow cytometry of primary immune cells.
  • Technical experience with qRT-PCR and ELISA is desirable.
  • Good understanding of the biotechnology industry, with recent experience in the industry preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Salary Range: $65,045 - $113,545 per annum. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
