The Opportunity - Instructional Assistant (Temporary Full-Time)

The Werklund School of Agriculture Technology is seeking a passionate and experienced individual to join our Instructional Assistant team to support our Environmental Science and Agricultural Management diploma programs! This is a unique role that will support and contribute to a high‑quality learning environment for students studying in plant and agronomy courses. There are opportunities to support and grow into supporting other agriculture‑relevant interest areas (e.g. computer applications, technology, and other ag‑science areas).

We are looking for :
  • Industry Experience That Matters: Someone who understands and can relate to the real‑world application of plant science and agronomy, and how that impacts agriculture and environmental industries.
  • Natural Leadership / Mentoring Ability: A professional who genuinely enjoys helping others learn, can explain complex concepts clearly, and has patience for students at all skill levels.
  • A Collaborative Approach: Someone who is comfortable being part of a team and values input from colleagues.
  • Positive Influence: An individual who instills confidence, encourages curiosity, and inspires life‑long learning among our instructional teams and students.
What you will be doing :
  • Provide direct support to instructors in assigned programs and courses.
  • Support instruction and course delivery by: providing course support through set‑up preparation, real‑time supervision, and clean up after delivery (e.g. labs, lectures and/or tutorials); ordering, purchasing, collecting and preparing materials and supplies; and maintain and record inventory of materials and supplies.
  • Maintain required records and documentation.
  • Assist in quiz, test or exam invigilation.
What you bring to the role :
  • Applicable post‑secondary experience to program(s)/subject areas in which support is provided and/or minimum of two (2) years of applicable experience recommended.
  • Familiarity in the following subject areas is required: Plant science, agronomy.
  • Familiarity in the following subject areas is an asset: Soil science, water science, livestock production/animal science.
  • Experience with growing plants and maintaining plant health.
  • Experience with tools and equipment relevant to environmental science and agronomy is recommended (e.g. calibration and execution of use).
