The Opportunity - Instructional Assistant

Various programs within the Werklund School of Agriculture Technology (Werklund School; temporary part‑time).

We are looking to hire an Instructional Assistant to primarily support our Environmental Science and Agricultural Management diploma programs. This position is responsible for assisting instructors in creating a high quality learning environment leading to student and instructional team success. At large, this includes preparing, distributing, and demonstrating subject‑area specific equipment and materials, assisting students, and performing additional tasks as required.

Key Job Functions
  • Provide direct support to Instructors in assigned programs and courses
  • Support instruction and course delivery by:
    • Provide course support through set‑up preparation, real‑time supervision, and clean up after delivery (e.g. labs, lectures and/or tutorials),
    • Ordering and purchasing of materials and supplies,
    • Maintain and record inventory of materials and supplies for assigned classes and programs,
    • Co‑ordinating and/or carrying out the collection and preparation of specific materials and supplies as required.
  • Prepare and maintain materials for student learning purposes
  • Maintain required records and documentation
  • Assist in quiz, test or exam invigilation
  • Participate as a member and collaborate with others as part of the Werklund School instructional assistant team and other College groups or teams where relevant
  • Assist with College events, promotion and recruiting activities, specific to the Werklund School
  • Meets and communicates frequently with Associate Dean regarding task, project and workload priorities
Requirements
  • Applicable post‑secondary experience to program(s)/subject areas in which support is provided and/or minimum of two (2) years of applicable experience recommended.
  • Familiarity in the following subject areas is required: Plant science, agronomy
  • Familiarity in the following subject areas is an asset: Soil science, water science, livestock production/animal science
  • Experience with growing plants and maintaining plant health
  • Experience with tools and equipment relevant to environmental science and agronomy is recommended (e.g. calibration and execution of use)
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge in using computer applications such as Google Suite (Google Drive, Sheets, Slides, Docs) and Microsoft (Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Strong organization, communication and time management skills
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities, critical thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to work on a team and independently with minimal supervision
  • Previous graduates of our programs will quality
Conditions Of Employment
  • May be required to do heavy lifting, repetitive physical work, work on uneven ground, and work in adverse weather conditions
  • Travelling to field locations on foot or in an authorized company vehicle
  • Some work outside of regular College operating hours may be required
  • Current Criminal Reference check
  • Must respect and actively promote health and safety policies
