Job summary

Siegwerk Canada seeks an InHouse Technician to support ink room operations at customer plants. You will run multi-step tasks, process batches, monitor equipment, and assist ink development. Travel to client sites is required (50–75%).

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED with 2–4 years press experience, strong color matching, teamwork, and problem-solving skills; knowledge of IMS/SPEC/Nova Flow is a plus. You will work with in-house teams to ensure quality and on-time service.

  • Experience with pre-press operations is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Complete multi-step tasks in value-adding processes per guidelines.
  • Process master batches, finished products, and containers manually or with automated systems.
  • Monitor equipment and advise on malfunctions and adjustments.
  • Provide back-up support to Ink Technician at other Canada locations when needed.
  • Attend print trials to qualify for new business.
  • Interact with customers during press approvals and meetings representing Siegwerk Canada.

The InHouse Technician performs a broad range of basic technical and administrative duties within a variety of customer plants pertaining to daily ink room activities and operation; responsible for running jobs as preside. Travels to customer sites as needed in order to perform job duties. Provide backup and support lab and technical ink developments as required. Meets customer needs to the best of the incumbent’s ability, in line with Siegwerk philosophy that the customer is the #1 priority. Complies with all company policies and standards.

Job Responsibilities
  • Complete multi-step tasks in the value adding processes according to guidelines and instructions.
  • Process master batches, finished products and/or containers, manually or using automated systems.
  • Monitor equipment in use and advise diagnosis and adjustments in the event of a malfunction.
  • Provide back up support to Ink Technician at other Canada locations while on leave on any day or any hour according to the needs of your customer.
  • Attend print trials to qualify for new business.
  • Interact with customers at press approvals and in meetings while representing Siegwerk Canada professionally at all times.
  • Facilitate and coordinate new in-house transitions, assisting customers with transition from competitor’s ink to Siegwerk ink.
  • Advise and train customer on technical ink printing processes that include (but not limited to): color matching, thin ink work off process, formula change-over, and color theory.
  • Supervise ink processing in client facility to ensure smooth operation.
  • Recognize basic printing problems, troubleshoot and confer with customer and client teams to resolve issues in close communication with the technical team.
  • Organize and conduct product trials at customers' plants.
  • Work closely with in-house technicians, lab technicians, account managers, and Siegwerk manufacturing to coordinate and insure that customer needs are met along with insuring proper procedures, service, and quality standards.
  • Evaluate current processes and make recommendations designed to reduce cost.
  • Train and lead other employees in global procedures
  • Work independently to complete any task assigned
  • Formulate and present drawdown requests when necessary;
  • All other duties as assigned
Education And Experience
  • High School diploma or GED with a minimum of 2-4 years press-related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience and knowledge of pre-press operations required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Color matching ability and knowledge of inks and films required.
  • Excellent teamwork, communications skills, and demonstrated initiative in problem solving/troubleshooting required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operating and a good working knowledge of IMS/SPEC/Nova Flow.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to understand rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Special Equipment/Working Condition Requirements
  • May operate lab equipment as required which includes but is not limited to: Proofer, X-Rite Color Computer, pH meter, Gloss Meter, Disperser, Triple Bean Scales, C.O.F., Sutherland rub tester, heat sealer, ink mixers, scales, and band tester.
