Support the Project Manager in delivering quality projects safely on time and on budget across all phases: inception scope development design procurement construction commissioning and closeout
Responsibilities
- Monitor technical performance and ensure engineering milestones quality metrics and KPI benchmarks are met throughout the project life cycle
- Apply knowledge of design standards and operations for transit facilities including train and bus storage and maintenance facilities
- Lead system engineering integration processes and prepare project requirements
- Develop and coordinate the design and construction of new transit facilities, modifications and improvements in accordance with applicable design standards, operational needs and accessibility requirements
- Lead value engineering activities to optimize design solutions and ensure cost efficiency
- Supervise coordinate and monitor multi-disciplinary design teams
- Provide engineering support during all phases: project planning and development, design development, tendering, construction, commissioning and handover
- Prepare and manage construction contract documents including technical specifications drawings and commercial terms
- Coordinate with the client, operational engineering and systems departments as well as external agencies, utilities and third parties to secure easements, utility relocations, permits and approvals
- Obtain all necessary internal and external sign-offs and ensure alignment with project goals and operational readiness
- Manage cost, schedule and technical aspects of assigned projects including tracking scope changes and implementing mitigation strategies
- Prepare and present performance dashboards KPI tracking reports and status updates to steering committees, senior leadership and other stakeholders
- Resolve complex construction stakeholder and schedule challenges through strategic mediation and resource reallocation
- Promote a culture of respect, equity and inclusion ensuring compliance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and accessibility standards
- Maintain professional competency through ongoing development and knowledge of emerging industry practices

Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in an Engineering area of specialty
- 10 years of experience in project management, construction management and project controls in major transit facilities projects, preferably in train yards and bus garages
- Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering in a related area of specialty
- Licenses or Certifications: Holding recognized PEng. licensure in the province of practice
- Skills and Competencies: Strong understanding of project management principles and practices including conceptual planning and all phases of design
- Proficient in project management information systems and reporting as it relates to control of scope scheduling and cost
- Demonstrated experience in early project planning processes including conceptualization and feasibility
- In-depth knowledge of construction techniques and practices, contract administration, and knowledge of the Construction Act as related to transit facilities
- Knowledge of government regulations, legislation and standards, safety regulations and procedures applicable to the project
- Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations / commitment to sustainability and safety
- Demonstrated ability to manage and work with multi-disciplined teams, deal with complex issues and maintain effective working relationships
- Demonstrated ability to motivate influence and obtain cooperation from a diverse group of internal and external project stakeholders to achieve the goals and objectives of the project
- Demonstrate or proven ability in organizational interpersonal problem-solving, solving and analytical skills
- Thorough understanding of prevailing engineering means and methods
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office
- Proficient in other applicable engineering-related software
- Ability to arrange priorities and escalate competing risks to meet deadlines with minimum input from leadership
- Keen eye for detail and adept problem-solving abilities
- Must have demonstrated experience relaying and receiving information (written and verbal)
- Expert ability to work collaboratively and independently in a structured, disciplined, technology-driven environment
- Effectively lead a small engineering team
- Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment by ensuring effective teamwork, promotion of innovation and overall excellence
- Demonstrated functional acumen to support how solutions will address client goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices
