ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Canadian Base Operators’ Meaford team is growing! If you are a committed and collaborative professional looking to contribute to a hard‑working, innovative team, this opportunity is for you. The Information Systems (IS) Technician position is in Meaford at the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre and typically reports directly to the IS Supervisor. The primary duties of the IS Technician are resolving computer hardware, software and network problems, receiving and responding to phone calls, email and visits to the department. They also maintain the IS inventory database, issue and receive laptops and other miscellaneous equipment that the TIS department loans out.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Act as point of contact for all IS related problems from user community.
  • Create work orders and provide solutions if possible.
  • Assign work orders to appropriate support staff if immediate solution is not possible.
  • Update inventory database.
  • Provide reports on inventory status as required.
  • Process issues and returns and amends to automated and paper records.
  • Accept items returned confirming serviceability of items or initiating repairs or other actions in accordance with current SOPs.
  • Resolve computer problems for user community by performing over the phone assistance to users, on‑site repairs, in shop repairs, and remote repairs.
  • Perform network, hardware, and software diagnostics, troubleshooting problems and researching solutions.
  • Provide update reports when equipment is moved.
  • As required, perform inventory verifications physically checking equipment on site at various locations.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Grade 12 or GED Equivalent
  • Diploma in Computer Science
  • Computer training, specifically current DND operating system and Microsoft
  • Valid Driver’s License – G
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Personnel responsible for managing the information systems to have at least 1 year of experience as managing information systems.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Proficient knowledge and understanding of:

  • Business operations processes
  • Organization and time management
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills (English)

Proficient user of:

  • MS Office (Office 365 suite, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Teams)
  • Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and Endpoint Configuration Manager
  • Operating Systems Microsoft Windows 10/11 and Microsoft Server 2012‑2019
