JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Skilled Trades, the Industry & Materials Assistant is responsible for ensuring the timely preparation, availability, and maintenance of materials, supplies, and equipment required to support skilled trades programs, while also serving as a key connector fostering industry relationships that lead to awards, donations, placements, and awareness of SNP’s skilled trades programs.

The Assistant is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Industry Engagement & Student Opportunities 25%
  • Building and maintaining relationships with industry partners to promote SNP programs, secure student placements (co-ops, internships, apprenticeships), and coordinate awards and donations;
  • Attending career fairs and visiting local businesses and schools;
  • Other related duties, as required;
Materials & Equipment Preparation 20 %
  • Preparing and maintaining tools, materials, and equipment for classes and shop activities;
  • Operate machinery (e.g., ironworker, bandsaw, welding tools) and coordinate with instructors to meet instructional needs.
  • Other related duties, as required;
Shop/Lab Operations & Safety 20%
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of workspaces;
  • Ensuring compliance with WHMIS, OHS, and safety protocols. Conduct inspections, maintain SDS, and coordinate equipment repairs;
  • Other related duties, as required;
Inventory & Procurement Support 15%
  • Receiving, storing, and tracking supplies and capital equipment;
  • Maintaining accurate inventory records and assist with procurement planning to ensure smooth program delivery;

Administrative & Program Support 10%
  • Assisting the Associate Dean with funding applications, recruitment, and orientation; Providing general administrative support and participate in events and committees;
  • Other related duties, as required;
Outreach Tracking & Reporting 10%
  • Developing and maintaining trackers for outreach, donations, awards, and placements;
  • Providing regular updates and reports to the Associate Dean;
  • Other related duties, as required;
EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE

Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of one to two academic year in a skilled trade such as welding or machining is required.

EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / CULTURE AND LANGUAGE EXPERTISE

1 to 3 years of experience hands-on experience in a skilled trade such as welding or machining, including operating and maintaining shop equipment (e.g., ironworker, bandsaw, welding tools).

Familiarity with inventory systems, material preparation, and shop/lab operations.

Knowledge and application of WHMIS and occupational health and safety standards.

Experience in industry outreach and stakeholder engagement, such as coordinating with employers, schools, or community organizations.

Involvement in career fairs, student placements, or promotional events.

Administrative support experience, including tracking outreach activities, coordinating donations, and supporting program operations.

Criminal Record Check

The successful candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Background Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) prior to the first day of work at Six Nations Polytechnic, and an Offence Declaration that is satisfactory to SNP by their first day of employment at Six Nations Polytechnic.
