Job summary

John Ross & Sons Ltd. in Goodwood, Nova Scotia, is seeking an energetic and safety minded welder to join our team.

We are a fifth‑generation, family‑owned metal recycling company serving customers worldwide, with 17 locations and a strong focus on safety and reliability. You will operate semi‑automatic welding equipment (SMAW/FCAW), weld, fabricate and repair equipment, and support production while keeping a clean, safe work area.

Qualifications

• Completion of college/technical training or a combination of training and experience.
• Previous fabrication experience is an asset.
• Reliable transportation.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs consistently.
• Must be comfortable wearing full PPE while on shift.
• Safety‑driven mindset with clear communication.
• Comfortable working in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate semi-automatic welding equipment to weld metal segments using SMAW, FCAW, pre-heating, tack welding, torch cutting, and flame cutting.
• Welding, fabrication, and repair of various equipment.
• Operate two-way radios and other communication equipment.
• Perform minor repairs to equipment.
• Assist machine operators and other production staff as needed.
• Maintain a clean and tidy work area.
• Upkeeping safety procedures.
• Ensure deficiencies are noted and reported to management.
• Other labor duties as necessary.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Operate semi-automatic welding equipment to weld metal segments using processes such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), pre-heating, tack welding, torch cutting, and flame cutting

• Welding, fabrication, and repair of various equipment

• Operate two-way radios and other communication equipment

• Perform minor repairs to equipment

• Assist machine operators and other production staff as needed.

• Maintain a clean and tidy work area

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 7 AM - 5 PM and rotational Saturdays as required

Payrate: To be negotiated depending on experience
