Job description

IS2 is seeking a skilled Industrial Sewing Machine and Cutting Machine Operator. On behalf of our customer, we are seeking a hardworking, reliable, and trustworthy Industrial Sewing & Cutting Machine Operator. In this role, you will operate both automatic and manual cutting machines to process a variety of fabrics. You will also work with different industrial sewing machines to assemble products such as bags and tarps.

Attention to detail, machine maintenance knowledge, and a commitment to safety and quality are essential.

Job Title: Industrial Sewing Machine and Cutting Machine Operator

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with occasional overtime

What You Will Do
  • Operate industrial sewing machines (e.g., flatbed, overlock, walking foot, cylinder arm) to stitch fabric pieces accurately and efficiently.
  • Operate manual and automated fabric cutting machines to prepare materials for sewing, ensuring precision according to patterns and measurements.
  • Read and interpret production work orders, patterns, and specifications.
  • Measure and mark fabric as needed to ensure precision and consistency.
  • Inspect materials and finished products for quality, reporting any defects or inconsistencies.
  • Inspect finished products for quality and make necessary adjustments or repairs.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance, such as cleaning, oiling, and replacing worn parts.
  • Always ensuring adherence to safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform shipping and receiving duties as needed.
  • Assist with packing, labeling, or other general shop duties when needed.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production targets and deadlines.
  • Identify and report machine malfunctions or material issues to supervisors promptly.
  • Assist in inventory management by tracking fabric usage and waste.
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous experience operating industrial twin-needle chain-stitch sewing machines and/or cutting equipment. (1-2 years minimum).
  • Understanding of fabric types and how they respond to cutting and sewing.
  • Ability to read and follow measurements, patterns, or instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Strong hand-eye coordination, attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting and maintaining machines.
  • Basic English, reading and writing
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Physically able to stand for extended periods and lift materials and finished goods as needed (up to 50 lbs).
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with different types of fabrics (e.g., leather, canvas, stretch materials).
  • Knowledge of various stitching techniques and garment construction.
  • Familiarity with computerized sewing or cutting equipment.
  • Forklift certification or experience is an asset.
  • Manufacturing floor environment, with exposure to noise, dust, and fabric fibers.
  • Requires standing, bending, and repetitive motion for extended periods.
