Maintenance Technician - Welder
Birla Carbon Canada in Hamilton is looking for a Welder to join our maintenance team.

Responsibilities
The core duties of this role are for an experienced welder on a daily basis; however, there will be frequent occasions when there is not a need for welding projects. In this case the successful candidate is expected to assist with any other repair or maintenance needs anywhere in the plant as deemed appropriate by supervision. The ideal candidate is a seasoned welder who enjoys being engaged with general maintenance and repairs.
- Satisfactorily completes all maintenance work orders, assignments, schedules, plans, and priority work lists; consistent with our commitment to on-time performance.
- Arc welding on carbon steel on our furnaces, water lines and high-pressure steam lines
- TIG welding on stainless steel expansion joints
- Arc welding on 1/4” – 5/8” stainless steel
- Recommends the purchase of mechanical equipment/parts, tools and the modification of mechanical equipment and procedures, as appropriate, consistent with our commitment to continuous improvement.
- Prepares and maintains all required mechanical reports and related documentation.
- Performs all required tasks in a manner consistent with the needs of our internal customers and our commitment to the success of our fellow maintenance team members.
- Actively participates in all mechanical-related programs, including ISO 9000 and World-Class maintenance.
- Continuously improves self-productivity, skill, morale, team spirit, and commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction through training, self-awareness, and personal involvement.
- Provides back-up and call-in services as required to meet our operational needs.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Mechanical Certificate and/or Instrument Technician Certificate and/or Electrician Certificate required.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience with welding within a continuous process, chemical, or carbon-black manufacturing plant is an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and the environment
Work Conditions/Schedule
- Able to climb stairs and ladders on a regular basis; work at heights and work in dusty environments.
- Able to work outdoors and in all weather conditions.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to operate basic mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic (computerized) controls safely and efficiently.
- Overtime as required; ability to work any shift including weekends as required.
