Qualifications

Industrial Hygienist

Position Overview

As a member of the Health and Safety Team, the Industrial Hygienist will report to the Superintendent of Health & Safety and work a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off schedule at the Ekati Diamond Mine. The Industrial Hygienist will be responsible for leading the safety culture at the Ekati Diamond Mine and is expected to interact frequently in the field and with all departments and levels of the organization.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Conduct Industrial Hygiene personal and field sampling for exposures to Noise, Silica, Respirable Dust, Welding fumes, and Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM).
  • Perform confined space gas (CO, H2S, O2, LEL) testing for permit entry.
  • Communicate observations and findings of occupational exposures, controls and programs to management and the workers in general as required.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative risk assessments to define similar exposure groups in the Underground Mine, Surface Mine, Processing and Maintenance operations.
  • Audit the Hearing Conservation Program and Respiratory Protection Program to ensure controls are effective.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and audits to provide recommendations to eliminate hazardous conditions.
Education & Experience
  • Post‑secondary degree in Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety and/or Science related field.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist or working towards designation is preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in the Occupational Hygiene/Industrial Hygiene field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in mining, or other industrial environments are considered an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and coordinate simultaneous sampling plans.
  • Analytical skills to understand laboratory results and perform statistical analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience using Cority.
